slow growing kids; how long do they wear clothes?

I was going through old pics last night from a year ago & noticed - they're still wearing the same clothes! Now, I knew that they grow slow & we get more use out of their clothes than most kids......but a year??

By the end of the season, they have out grown their clothes (and I buy their shirts a size bigger and I usually have to roll the sleeves when I first buy them). Their pants look like floods on them right now but I refuse to buy more winter pants for a few more weeks!

On of my girls can still fit into the clothes from 2 years ago. It is just way to short on her now. It so depends though on the brand, how big it was when it was new.

I went through our bin of last year's summer clothes just this week to see what I could hand down to our cousin for his upcoming Disneyland trip. We can still fit into 75% of the shorts. I'd say 50% of those shorts were worn the summer before (when they were 15-18m). So, we'll be getting 3 summer's worth out of those. We're also wearing the same swim trunks for the third summer in a row. They suddenly fit again now that we're diaperless (less bulky).

We outgrow all of our tops, jackets, & PJs (even the shorts ones) annually (and have a separate set of tops/jackets/PJs for summer/winter), but our pants can last at least a year...moreso with those great adjustable waist pants. Here in Seattle shorts/long shirts can be worn 3 seasons a year, so we get a lot of mileage out of them.

I have 10th percentile peanuts though, which is irritating when people ask if my almost 3-year olds are 18-months old  , but comes in handy for extending the lifespan for clothing.

I have a 10th percentile and a less than 3 percentile and while their height is normal we get some great use out of our clothes. Today my one daughter had on a onesie type outfit (top that buttons in the crotch with no legs -- for our hot summer) which was size 6 month Osh gosh and she is 15 months old.... We have another baby due in 6 weeks so if she grows normally I will likely have 3 girls wearing the same size. I'm already preparing myself for the "are they triplets" question ....

It depends on the season and the time span, I guess. I had my twins in 12-18 month clothing when they were 7 months old....but, those clothes lasted until they were about 14 months or so.

Now, at 20 months, we have the opposite problem that SweetPeaG has, because they're so big. Karina is the size of a 3-year-old at nearly 37 inches and 30 pounds. She and Kevan are both wearing 2T, but the waists swim on Kevan -- he has to have adjustable waist. The length is correct. And, the waists fit Karina, but everything is way too short, pants and shirts both. No way can I use this same stuff next year....

That said, Nadia has some size 4 skirts/skorts that she wore the summer she was 3.5 (I had to really take in the waists), and again last summer, when she was 4.5 -- I let the waists out. I bet they'll still fit her this year, but I think they'll be indecently short. Likewise, she still fits into many size 4 and size 5 shirts that she's been wearing for a year or two....but, they're all getting short.

I think being bigger than normal or smaller than normal both come with their own problems -- for instance, Nadia towers over all her classmates, and people think she's 6 or 7 years old. And then, she starts talking, and she sounds like a kid who just turned 5.

I guess this is something I better get used to...my Peanut (DD) is 5% and is still wearing 0-3 month clothes at 5+ months. I bought her 3-6 months stuff when my DS grew into them 2 months ago. Now I'm thinking he's going to be into 6-9 month before she makes it into 3-6. I guess my biggest problem is I'm getting sick of her clothes but I really don't want to buy new stuff in her current size. Also, all her 3-6 month stuff I've already bought is winter clothes, so I'm wondering if she'll even make it into them before winter ends...fortunately in Boston we have a long winter!

Anthony is short....The poor kid is 16 months old-and I can still put him in 6-9 month pants! Granted-these are sweatpants, etc... without buttons, etc. I am hoping to get good use out of the clothes, seeing how we have SO MANY!

We changed from 2 and 3(jessy wearing smaller jazz wearing bigger) to 3 and 4 during the end of last summer and will most likely still be in 3/4 when summer begins.

Oh yeah, we've had some clothes for a year or more. At 3y3m, mine are still wearing some things marked 18-24 months!

In general, they wear the "correct" size shirts for their age (like the 2T seemed to fit them best from about 24-30 months), but I tend to put things in the rotation when they're still too big (unless the pants fall off) and not remove them until they're visibly too small. So it winds up being quite a long time.

We have some things that they wore all last summer and will wear again this summer -- though they have shot up a few inches just in the past few months, so who knows if that pattern will continue.

why not? My ddis small and petitie and was 3 y/o in nov and still wears some of her 2T pants. As long as it fits and is season appropriate, why not!

Sophie will be 3 in 2 months time and now is finally fitting into size 1.5 - 2 year clothes! I just threw out a pair of pyjamas she got for her first birthday yesterday as they had got a little bit too small! Most of her clothes are 1.5 - 2years where as her brother is starting to go into 3-4 year clothes! I dont see a problem with them wearing the same clothes as last year or year before in sophies case! If they fit then why not x

OMG so lucky!! I wish I could get more wear out of my clothes. . .like Becca's kiddos, mine are too tall and too skinny to find clothes that fit without looking like they belong on Noah's ark.

Both of my girls will be able to wear at least half of the summer clothes that they wore last year. DD2 is very petite, and at 2yr7mo is still wearing some 18mo clothes. DD1 just turned 4 and she wears a 3-4 shirt, but pants are tricky for her b/c she is actually just starting to grow a little taller than SOME 3T pants but her waist is too small for 4T pants. Thats the good thing about spring summer months coming b/c she can weair capris or shorts! :)
Now my boys are going to fit into a lot of their shirts, but some of their shorts from last year may be a little shorter than I like them. I still wont have to do a full summer wardrobe for them though!

I agree w/ another poster that it really depends on who makes it! I remember going to the store when I had my first son and seeing 0-3mo sleepers that were 2-3x his size.

My boys have been pretty consistent with going into the next size when they hit that age, but they have a pair of jeans that they have been wearing for a good 3 months already that are size 18 months. They are rolled once at the bottom and are still loose in the waist. I hope to be getting almost a year out of them. I think once they go into 2t/3t/4t they can wear them for a much longer time b/c the growth isn't so dramatic.
