I really think I need to get a sling. Dillon can be very fussy and just wants to be held, and normally only by me...gotta love being the mommy :) I know I can get them online, but want one A.S.A.P....has anyone gotten one from WalMart, Target or BRU? Looking to spend no more than $50 and want one that is easy to put on and get him into.Any suggestions?

I got the Infantino slingrider from Target, it was about $30. It's really easy! Both my kids love it, and I can actually take both of them out together if I need to without carrying around the heavy carseats.

We had both the Moby wrap (you can carry both babies in it for one of its configurations), and I believe that was $50 at a local "natural baby" store, and then we had a used baby bjorn. I liked the Moby wrap better at first... they can't go in the bjorn until they are at least 8.5 lbs, which took a while for us to get to.

Here's more info on the moby wrap:

Also, might not hurt to check craigslist or something for a used bjorn. Ours was several years old, used by several kids, and still worked great for us.

I love the Hotsling. I don't think they sell at the chain stores, but all the little boutique type baby stores around here have them. I think it was $49.

Not a sling - but I also LOVE the Ergo Baby Carrier - they have an infant insert that you can use to carry a little baby in a cradle position.

I made all of my slings--if you're handy with a sewing machine and have a spare 5 minutes, you can make a pouch sling.

measure from your shoulder to opposite hip, multiply times two and add six inches (roughly). This is your length. Go to a fabric store and buy a length of 45 inch fabric in the length you need from your measurements (I round up a half yard, you can use the excess to make a matching bag to store it in if you like)

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together. (so it's inside out).
Sew a seam the length of the fabric, making a long tube.
    Turn it right side out.
Fold it in half width wise, and pin the cut ends together. Draw a curved line there on the cut end. (so the whole thing looks kind of like half a hot dog)
Sew along the curved line and cut the excess. this is the INSIDE of your sling
Turn right side out and stitch the seam again to reinforce it.

End result should look something like this:

Our Target sells the hotsling for $40. I never did get to try the infantino sling that they sell at WalMart and Target but I've seen it at both places.

We had two of these, and they were one of the best purchases! Both babies LOVED them and it instantly calmed them. I liked them because they were a little more intuitive than some of the other sling styles, and my husband didn't feel like a goofball wearing it either. You can get them at BRU, Target or WalMart.

We called them our mobile womb rooms!
    Good Luck!

I just got the $20 Snugli. It works perfectly fine. Owen has days when he just needs to be held. I'm able to cook dinner with him in the carrier. I'm glad I didn't spend anymore than $20 because the Snugli works great.

You can usually find Baby Bjorns on ebay for around $50. I borrowed 2 of them and loved it!

I have a friend who makes them and sell them on line. She will make what ever color/fabric you want. You can go to her web site here She is great to work with and you can tell her Melissa hardman sent you.

She sells them for $30. I love my sling. I used it at a week old and I still use it. It is fabulous. I highly recommend one.

For those who use the Moby Sling, how long can you carry both babies at once?

I would look in your phone book and see if you have any baby boutiques in town. They usually carry a nice collection of slings. The Ergo is my absolute favorite and I still use it all the time to carry my 23 pounder. For little ones, I like the New Native pouch because it is so easy to use and the Maya Wrap because it holds the baby close and streches around them. I don't recommend anything like the Baby Bjorn though because it leaves the baby hanging by their crotch. That's one of the problems with leaving babies in excersaucers and jumperoos too long so it would definitely be the same in a Baby Bjorn.

On the Moby site, it shows wearing them at 10 weeks. So at least until then.
