I'm currently 31.5 weeks...I'm on bed rest, so it isn't like I'm up running around all day. But my GOD, I now go to sleep around 8:00 and I slept in until 10:30 THIS MORNING. Although I wake up about 5 times to go to the bathroom, I feel like this is crazy. I'm worried I'm going to get used to sleeping so much and then when my boys come I won't know what to do with the VERY large sleep time difference. Maybe this means that they are growing :p

On a different topic, before bed rest I was a special education teacher. I am really having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with the boy as far as their shots. As a teacher I was 110% sure that autism and the boosters were not connected, but now that I am going to be a mom of 2 boys I'm wanting to do everything and anything to protect them. Is anyone else questioning the vaccines or just thinking about postponing them?

I am already worried about this too.. and boosters are 1.5 years away.. I can't imagine that IF they are connected, I could endanger my child..

And IF they are connected, thank god our DS did great with all his shots..

Wow, I would love to sleep that long. Enjoy it now, while you can.

As far as vaccines, all 3 of my kids are totally up to date on all of their shots.

I would also love to sleep that long.....those were the days ;).

We vaccinate all our children per our ped's schedule.

I'd love to have that much sleep, enjoy it while it lasts. :)

There have been lots of discussions lately about vaccines and autism. I've posted a few links for you to browse through when you have the time. Personally I've chosen to delay all vaccines until my girls are older. A child's brain does the bulk of its growing between the third trimester and the age of two. I would rather wait then risk damaging a growing, maturing brain. This is a tough and passionate topic for most people, and in the end we all have to make the decision of what is best for their own family. Good luck

there is new research out now that disputes the vaccine-autism link. Its all so confusing, but I have a medical background and I would rather my kids be up to date on all their shots than risk a life threatening childhood illness.

I'm also a teacher. I plan to get my kids vaccinated on schedule. I also got the flu shot even though I was "warned" by so many people that I'll probably have ASD kids because of it. I have also read a few articles about research that is showing that vaccinations are probably not linked to ASD problems. Good luck with your decision.

Also, you obviously need the sleep. Take it while you can. :)

First of all, sleep and love it. Sleep for the rest of us! Sleep sleep sleep for goodness sake.

I obsessed over the vax question for my entire pregnancy. I read everything I could get my hands on. Finally, when it all came down to it I decided to go with what my pediatrician recommended. I scheduled a seperate appointment just to discuss this. She was awesome. She listened to everything I said and really considered all of my requests. In the end, she still recommended vaxing on schedule. I made the decision to follow her advice and I never looked back. It felt good to have the decision be made and to not be on my shoulders.

At this point, they do not know if there is a link but they DO know that not vaxing puts your children at risk for serious diseases. We had a measles outbreak in our city recently and it reminded me that these diseases are still very real. With many people chosing not to vax it's even more important that my kids are vaxed because the disease has an opening in society to come back in. There is a woman I know whose son is autistic so she decided not to vax her daughter (second child) and the daughter got meningitis.

Good luck with your decision. It's agonizing.

Yep...your body is stckpiling all that sleep right now. Keep at it...you will need to use up your reserves here before too long.

As for vaccinations, we have had both of our children vaccinated per the pedi's recommendation.

My oldest son has autism. We don't believe it had anything to do with his shots. Though there are links to vaccinations and autism. I would definitely vaccinate!!! It was never a question for me then, and it isn't now. Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis..many horrible diseases could kill your child...measles, mumps, rubella. Autism is a manageable thing, my son is alive and healthy. Those diseases are the ones to fear. Not autism. I am a disability advocate. I also do public speaking on disability awareness. I have also sat on a panel for our state on childhood immunizations and why they are important. We have whooping cough outbreaks in our state quite often. And that frightens me. Studies DO show links with the mercury laden preservatives and some of the combination shots given to young babies having a cause for autism. But not all cases of autism are caused from this. I still though will vaccinate, because I want my son to be healthy. He is PERFECT just the way he is and I wouldn't change a thing.

I really respect and thank you for your input. I must say that I do want to do some of the vaccinations no matter what, I was just looking for some more insight. In my classroom majority of my student have ASD and I must say I think I have learned more from my students about life then any class or anyone else in my life. My students are nothing less then amazing. Thank you for your responce

I will probably delay some shots. I believe that Autism has a genetic and environmental link. There is a book that is coming out by Dr. Sears' son called The Vaccine Book and it talks about each vaccine and what goes into it and everything. Seems to be very UNbiased, which is difficult to come by on this topic.

I actually was struggling with this after watching Jenny McCarthy on Oprah say that she thinks her son has autism because of his 18 month shots. I just took my son in today for his 18 month shots.....and I have been worried for a week about it. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to him because he wasn't vaccinated though.....so I went ahead and finished all his shots. It's a tough subject, but especially now since so many people aren't vaccinating their children I want to make sure all of mine are.

my younger brother is autistic also. he just turned 17 this year...i love him to death and he is perfect! i think he is blessed to be that way. he is very smart he just doesnt communicate the same as me but he communicates. its like he has his own world! i am very worried with my children also i want my birth to be as natural as possible...i havent checked those websites she put up yet but i don think i will because i may put more stress on myself than i need to right now. but if u r worried then research it but i do believe now that all the research in the world will not interfere with God's plan and please do not lose any sleep over it because it is such a touchy issue...i worried about a lot of things too and now i cnnot get an ounce of sleep...you are exactly the opposite of me. in 3 days i have slept a total of 8 hours and i have only left the house twice. please relax i would not suggest that you worry over the matter because stress is worse than any mental illness.

I am so so jealous of the good sleep you are getting :D . I have horrible insomnia right now (averaging 2-5 hours of very interrupted sleep a night).

I'm also struggling with the decision about vaccinations. Our older 2 children got everything according to schedule. I'm leaning towards having the babies fully vaccinated but only having them get one shot at a time and possibly delaying some of the heavy duty shots.

    Good luck!!

Hi there! I too was a Special Education teacher pre twin pregnancy! I actually had a colleague who had a child who I honestly believe was effected negatively by his vaccines. He was a "normal" kid until he was about 2.5 and then started showing serious signs of a problem like eating through plastic to get to the white bread in the house, not making eye contact with or socializing with mom and family (which he was before), as well as other telltale signs... She actually was a Special Education teacher too, and decided to take a year off to work with her son. In the process she has found a doctor who has worked with the family to establish a new diet (wheat free) as well as continual blood analysis. He has made HUGE strides and is becoming more of the kid that she remembers, but it is a process she feels she would not have had to deal with had she done an alternative vaccination plan.

Based on her experiences and conversations I have had with her about her son I think there may be some validity to the concern about vaccinations for boys. Prior to working with her, I had done a little research on this, but not significant. I have since read several articles about this on both sides of the issue and can say that I honestly think there may be some validity to the vaccination thing, but it is still up for debate.

I have a daughter and this was something I really didn't consider with her, but this time we are expecting 2 boys. It is something I have thought a great deal about and will discuss with my pediatrician. I know that you can stagger the schedule a little differently, but I really don't know the pros & cons. I do, however, plan to vaccinate the boys, but I am not sure if I will follow the current schedule.

    Hey

I am totally with you on being sleepy all the time now. I'm 36 weeks and at my last appoinment I told my doctor about sleeping so much and he laughed and said get it all now because once the boys come it will be a faint memory.

He also took some blood as a precautionary measure and I found out I was amemic, he called me when the blood work came back and said it was very common during pregnancy - he said this is probably why I have been very tired/sleepy and not that hungry (which is how I have been feeling). He told me to take over the counter iron pills to supplement what I am missing from pre-natal vitamins

I would ask your doctor your next appointment to check to see if your anemic, it never hurts to find out.

sleepy.............. oh i can't say how much, any time i can go to sleep..... and if I am saying it to some one.. he/she will say sleep now later they won't give you time to sleep
as I am also on bed rest so nothing else to do but to sleep..... some times I feel guilty as I even not get up to serve the breakfast to my BH or to say him good bye when he leaves to the office.... but really it is the time to get the rest that body is asking for, who knows what will happen after the babies are here ;)
