I know that I've been told not to let the twins sleep in the same crib. I understand the SIDS risk...........

The reality is my twins sleep better when they are next to each other (especially my boy twin). Isometimes let them do it when they are in the pnp or the bassinet and I'm awake/watching them.

    Others?

I did when they were little and didn't move around, but they outgrew side by side fast then I went to end to end. By 3 months they needed their own cribs :) BTW The hospital had them in the same Bassinette for warmth, we did that too in the first month at home.

my boys slept in the same crib when they shared our room. started off side by side, then heads either end. we moved house at 4 months and they moved into their own room with own cots. but their cots are placed in an L shape in the corner of the room so their heads are still close enough together to settle each other.

We let them sleep together in their glider chair during the day together when we can watch them and at night we have a cradle they sleep feet to feet in but they are getting to long so my dad made us another one. It makes me sad to separate them but it has to be done sometimes I guess!

Mine slept together for the first 5 months. I do not see a problem with it.

Mine did until they broke out of their swaddling at 3 months. Then they'd wake each other up :)

Mine shared a crib until they were 6 months old and got too big to sleep side by side together. They have their own rooms now. In those early days it was much easier to attend to two babies in the same room rather then go back and forth between rooms. Oddly enough, they would rarely wake each other up.

our hospital's mothering multiples program didn't officially recommend sharing a crib, but they said they realize that people do and off the record they don't have a problem with it. they did recommend that if you do share a crib, you don't do it next to each other, but lengthwise along the crib, with each baby's head in the middle and feet to each end of the crib. because if they're going to squirm when they're little enough to share, they're more likely going to travel away from each other instead of toward.

our guys have reflux, though, so we don't use the crib. just reporting what i was told. :)

Mine have slept together from the very first day, even in the hospital they put them together. They slept in a porta crib and then a packNplay, both in our room, together, and now they nap in their own cribs and still sleep in the PackNPlay together at night, until we can find the monitor for their room. They'll be 5 months on Thursday.

Mine have slept in the same crib since day 1...they are starting to move around more now though and break out of their swaddles so by 5 months we are going to move them into their own cribs.
Mine were in the same basinette in the hospital as well. A few doctors told me its recommended especially for preemie twins...them being next to each other help remind the other to breathe.

Mine are still sharing a crib. We have one crib in our room and one in their room. I like having them in our room for now.

My boys slept side-by-side in the crib for the first 3 months of life. It worked perfectly for us and I don't consider it a SIDS risk as long as you've got them in safe, open crib without extraneous pillows, etc.

Mine slept together until DS started rolling on DD. She didn't like that, so we moved to separate cribs.

The practice of co-bedding twins is a highly debated topic and there are studies that can be found to support both sides. I never really planned on them sleeping in the same crib, but they were co-bedded while in the NICU so we continued this when they came home. . .Now 3 months old, I just separated them into their own cribs, but this was mainly due to my son's severe reflux and him needing to sleep in a bouncer (at the suggestion of our pedi until his upper GI next week). . .I think you should do what works for you and what makes life easiest for you! :D

I hear some controversy to that theory that there's a SIDS risk with letting your babies sleep in the same bed. By hearing each other breathe, it does help them continue to breathe on their own. If the concern is if one baby's carbon dioxide is being breathed on to the other baby, that would actually make the other baby naturally inhale. It's part of the same argument with co-sleeping. By sleeping with their mommy and daddy, they tend to breathe better and use the sound of your own breaths guide their breathing as well. So it only does make sense that having your babies sleeping together may not be as much of a risk as originally thought. It's not recommended because the theory has not been thoroughly tested, even though most co-sleeping moms will swear by it. Just be safe and make sure that nothing else can cause your babies to suffocate such as blanket or bumpers in the crib. Large stuffed animals also can be a hazard unless they are stiff and they cannot bury their heads in it.
