I have read so many different opinions on sleep, sleep training, and what you should allow your babies to do and wanted to ask you guys. When did your babies start sleeping through the night and what do you consider sleeping through the night. How many hours are the most that you go? Mine are put down at 9:30 but wake up around 3:00 - I know that they would be pacified to sleep a bit longer but I am scared to do that because I am already gonig against what my pediatrician said which is to wake them up every three hours to eat regardless. They are gaining weight really well and have been only waking up once a night for about a month. Any words from experience?

I would say count your blessings. :D

Are they getting up to eat and then going right back to sleep? Are they taking the whole bottle are just a few ounces? I have read that STTN is considered 12am to 6am. Strange, but 6 hours to say the least. At 2 months we were getting up at least every 3 hours if not sooner. We werent only getting up once a night until maybe like 6 months old. Mine did not STTN without wake-ups until they were 9 months old. Enjoy your sleep!!!

I fed mine when they woke up at night until 7 months, when they started sleeping through (until 6-7am). I'm not into training them to sleep. If they're hungry, I'll feed them. They were up every 3 hours until 4 months, then DD slept through for two weeks, then they were up around 2-3am until 6 months, then around 4-5am, then slept through at 7 months.

My babies are a little older than your babies and we are still getting up once a night. They usually go down around 6:30 - 7:00 for bedtime, we wake them up around 10:00-10:30 for a little formula and then whenever they get up during the night. Last night they didn't get up at all and then woke around 5:45. It was wonderful...they may be a little too young/small to make it through the night without something in their tummies. Good luck!

I think it sounds like they are doing great. (Better than my girls who are 7 mos. today!) I would feed them when they want it at that age.

Your babies are doing incredibly well for their age. If they wake up, then feed them for sure, because they are still very young. I'm pretty sure STTN is considered around 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

At around 3 and a half months mine started sleeping for 6 hour periods, that increased to 8 hour periods within a couple weeks, and now (at 5 months), they've been sleeping from 8-8.30pm til about 6.30 or 7am since they were just over 4 months. We do have some waking up at times, but its not food related, usually because they've wriggled out of their blanket (we don't swaddle, but we do wrap them from below the armpits when its colder), or because one has a cold.

Thanks for all your replies - just to answer the questions. They wake up and we immediately give them a bottle of about four and half ounces for each of them which they typically finish in about 20 - 30 minutes, then they are held for about 5 - 10 minutes until drowsy again and then we put them in their cribs and they are back to sleep. My baby girl does not wake up for the 3:00ish feeding but the boy is hungry. We definitely feed them when they are hungry but it seems lately that when they wake up it is more out of habit from when we were waking them every three hours because they aren't crying or fussing like they do when they are hungry - it is more like they are when they will take a paci and be fine.

BTW, I am definitely not complaining - when people ask how we are sleeping we tell them that compared to the first month this is fabulous and totally doable - I am just wondering if we are close to officially sleeping through the night as is and if I need to wake them if they sleep past that three o'clock time (they have a couple of times) to make sure they are getting enough to eat. They are taking about 26 - 28 ounces a day right now with the middle of the night feed so I know that if they miss it we will definitely need to increase the feeds the rest of the day!

I told my pedi that the boys occasionally sleep 5-6 hours at night and she's fine w/ that. She has twins, too.
