Kyle has been rolling over for a few weeks now but as of yesterday, he now rolls over to sleep. I turned him over on his back three times last night but he would just roll right back over again. I've seen posts similar to this before and the consensus was if they are strong enough to roll over, they are probably fine. I still worry. Four months seems a little too young doesn't it? Did anyone else have a tummy sleeper this early?

I think Colin was closer to 5 months, but if they can do it on their own, they really should be fine. I know it's hard to not worry.

If they want to roll over and sleep, I would say just leave him. My boys have been sleeping on their tummies since they were 9 weeks.

    THey sleep SO much better.

I wouldn't worry about it. My girls started doing that around the same time and it helped out with their belly time, and with strengthening their neck muscles. it is now their preferred way of sleeping. once they can roll over they should have pretty good head movement so they can move away if need be.

As soon as mine could roll themselves over to sleep on their tummies, I left them that way.

Mine went through a period of about 2 weeks, after they learned how to roll over, of where they would only sleep on their tummy.

All of a sudden though they went back to back/side sleeping! No idea what goes through their heads sometimes!

I agree with everyone else, if they can roll there, they are fine! :D

Libbey rolled over at 8 weeks and that was it.... but now at 5 months she is a side sleeper. Go figure.

Mine have been doing that since about 3.5 - 4 months. You're exactly right...if they're strong enough to roll over, they're fine to sleep that way. They sleep more soundly too because their arms don't wake them up.

Mine did it too, around 4-5 months. If they can put themselves there, it's okay. You can't be flipping them around all night! Tummy sleeping, if the baby
positions themselves that way, is not a major risk factor for SIDS, it's the issues with soft bedding/bumper pads/stuffed toys which are a big risk, not to mention
the other factors I'm sure you're aware of. At this age they should be able to position themselves nicely on the bed so that they have ample room for air.
I think when they do this it is just so cute!

Once mine could roll, I let them be.

One of my boys rolled over at 3-1/2 months adjusted and now always sleeps on his tummy. He's much happier that way!

Both of mine do that, and they are the same age as yours. I asked their doctor and she said it's fine as long as they're doing it on their own.
