I am new to the website. I have 3 month old boy/girl twins. They were born at 32w6d and we in the NICU for 2 weeks. They came home on Apnea monitors and were on them for over a month. During the day I would let them sit and sleep in the bouncy seat and go to bed in the bassinett. I am now trying to get them to sleep in their cribs and they do not like it at all. They will outgrow the bassinett soon and will need to sleep in their cribs, any advise on how to get them to sleep in the cribs.

if sleeping in the bouncy seat is comfortable for them, why not let them continue to sleep there? our guys have reflux so they sleep in their bouncy seats every night.

i am afraid that when they outgrow the bouncy seats and bassinetts they will not sleep and give us a hard time in the crib. My two have relfux also and I bought the inclined positions for the cribs so they are a little elvated.

we're not to the point of making the transition to the crib so i can't speak to that. but it has come up many times on this board and from the sound of it many posters here have made the transition successfully.

our reflux issue has improved slightly recently so every now and then we have them nap during the day in the crib, when they're good and tired and ready to just zonk out. i think there's a period of letting them adjust to the idea of being in the crib when they haven't slept there before.

i have confidence that eventually they'll learn to sleep in a crib. it'll all work out with time and patience. i'm not concerned that they'll still be strapping into a bouncy seat when they're 12 ;)

Those seats have saved me. I have another question. I know we have to adjust their ages and I a little confused. I was reading a post before and someone said the height of fussiness is 6 weeks so we would use adjusted age or gestational age. Mine are 3 months today and 6 weeks corrected.

    Are yours fussy?

:welcome: to the First Year. I have 32 weekers who came home on Apnea monitors too. We went cold turkey into the crib at 4 months. But we werent getting much sleep anyway at night so why not. You can try to do it gradually like getting them to nap in there and then go for the nighttime one. Ours had terrible reflux too and were sleeping in their bouncys and swings at night. Then I bought the sleep positioners that have the incline for them to sleep on. I started them using them with naps too.

Adjusted age goes by their 40 week due date. So yes, yours are 6 weeks old and yes you are in the height of fussiness and maybe a growth spurt too. Again, welcome. I hope you find the First Year forum helpful and supportive.

Maybe if you swaddle them real cozy they won't feel like their in this huge place, or do you have vibrate on the crib? good luck to ya :) welcome too-this place is awesome :)

Hi, my twins are 3 months adjusted. Mine have been sleeping in their bouncy chairs. I just started trying the morning nap in the crib. Yesterday I swaddled both of them and put them in the crib. My DS started screaming immediately. I put the pacifier in his mouth and started patting him on the chest. He eventually calmed down, and went to sleep for 45 minutes. I patted my DS on her chest until she fell asleep. She didn't want the pacifier. She also slept 45 minutes. I used the white noise machine.

I get confused about the bouncy chair. It works for us pretty well. We keep them near our bed at night because we usually get up 2 or 3 times at night. Our relatives always ask if they are still in their bouncy chairs (kind of implying they "should" be in cribs). Although we're just trying to do what works for us. We're first time parents, so we don't have any experience with babies.

Unfortunately, I just read our crib was recalled and we need to order new parts. I won't put them in the crib until it's repaired correctly.

  9. would your bassinets fit in the crib? that's what we did with our first born to transition him to his nursery and crib. it worked really well for him. i think he stayed in the bassinet in the crib for a month or so. the same theory worked when he was older with the pak'n'play, we set it up in his room before we took him on an overnight trip w/ the pak'n'play

    good luck!

mine are 11 weeks adjusted today. they still fuss, but they fuss more for specific reasons than that random constant fussiness they used to have. we're also going through what i suspect is a growth spurt just based on how much they're suddenly eating, and that's got them a little fussier right now, too. generally they're not too fussy if we're following their cues and changing, feeding, and putting them down for naps as soon as we see the signs. but yes, they used to be incredibly fussy and we spent many nights lying next to their bouncy chairs, desperate for a moment of sleep, bouncing them constantly to keep them from accelerating from fuss to full-blown fit.

they've just stepped up their food demands, although they've never been big eaters. we now do 5 oz bottles for owen (little brother) and 4 oz bottles for jacob (big brother). owen apparently wants to outgrow his brother and he's really stepped up his intake. they're just beginning to learn to sleep through the night so they've dropped a nighttime feed, so they eat 7 times a day now instead of 8.

I don't know if you can do this because ours were never in bouncers to sleep but they were in pack and play with two bassinets and we put them on the sleep positioners in the pack and play to get them used to sleeping on those and then just moved the positioners into the cribs with no problem. Maybe they could sleep on the positioners in the bouncer, depending on what kind it is??? We did move them to their crib at about 5 weeks, right when we also implemented their stringent bedtime routine and it took 3 days or so for them to adjust but it was all new and so I think the crib transition kind of got lost in all the other new stuff we were doing (swaddling, bath, no lights at all, etc.).

Fussiness - I was just telling dh the other night that mothers should tell expecting mothers more about how fussy babies truly are and that sometimes they just cry, especially early on. I almost tore my hair out worrying that I should be doing something when they were crying constantly during the "witching hours" and when I finally just realized that they are going to fuss and cry sometimes no matter what you do, my sanity was restored a bit. They are much, much better now but of course now they are in a stage where they are starting to realize that fussing gets them something and the something they want these days is to be held, constantly!
