Sleeping at two months

I am worried that my babies are sleeping too much. I know that before three months babies sleep between 16-18 hours a day (at least that is what I have read), but it seems like my boys sleep more than that. For example, today, Jack was up this morning for about two hours, and then he went to sleep and it seems like he has been sleeping all day. He wakes up ever now and then, but not for long periods of time. William has only been up like once for an hour straight and then off and on for short periods. They do wake up when they are hungry, every three hours, but then it seems like they go right back to sleep. It seems like most days are like this give or take a couple of hours (except the one day that Jack was up for 10 hours straight).

My DH does his shift with the boys between 8:30 and 1:00ish and he says they are usually awake some or all of the time that he has them. Maybe because I am sleeping at this time, I don't realize that they are actually awake more, I don't know.

Am I being overly worried or could they be sleeping too much. They don't seem sick or lethargic or anything, so I don't think it is that.

Also, if most of the time they are awake is between 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. how do I change that to be during the day? I try to interact with them when they wake up in the day, but they seem to sleep when they want to.

Sorry if the post seems to ramble, I just want to make sure that my boys are okay.

    Any thoughts or advice?

Mine were very sleepy like that until around 3.5 months. I kept mine on a strict 3 hour feeding schedule both to fill them up and also to try and wake them up throughout the day in hopes that they would sleep more at night!

Same here. It eventually worked out well.

Were they born early? My babies really seemed to be more awake at the 8 week mark, they were born full term. Now they are up for about 1-1.5 hours at a time during the day, longer in the evening but they get really fussy. Are yours sleeping at night??

They were born at 38 weeks. They had been sleeping at night pretty well between midnight and 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning (of course waking up to eat, but going right back down after their bottles). The last couple of nights though they have been little night owls. Last night they were up between 2-5.

I'm so glad you posted this! I have been wondering the same thing...mine were born at 37 weeks. They sleep almost all day and all night. During the day they wake up every 2-3 hours to eat, and after eating and diaper changing within 15 min. they are ready to sleep again. During the night they eat every 4-5 hours and go right back to sleep. I'm not complaining about the schedule at all, it just seems like my oldest daughter had a lot more awake time at this age.

Although, just today (they are almost 11 weeks) they both stayed awake a little longer during the day feedings. Maybe there is something to the 8-week mark like Mary said...
