I have 3 mo. old b/g twins that are age adjusted to 2 mo. old. How much should they be sleeping during the day? Should I be putting them down for scheduled naps or let them determine when they're tired? Any advice is much appreciated since these are my first babies!

when mine were this young I let them guide me in terms of sleep...in fact I think I just kept them in their bouncers a lot and let them sleep there.

:welcome: We didn't fall into a nap schedule until closer to 4-5 months. I let them be the guide at that age in terms of sleep.

We didn't have any kind of a nap schedule until 4 or 5 months. At 2 months, they generally napped between every bottle. At some point, that morphed into 3 naps a day, and we started to get a schedule of a morning and afternoon nap pretty solidly around 5 months.

My girls were born 7.5 weeks early, and so at that age I just let them determine when to sleep--and even at 3 months actual age, they were sleeping a significant portin of the day. I would suggest to just follow their cues, and eventually a routine will develop.

At that age I fed them, changed them, played with them 20 minutes and they pretty much had to sleep again.

I followed the babies signs as far as when they needed to rest. At about the 3.5 - 4 month mark is when I realized a routine.

Our daughters are also three months and we're in the same boat. They've been sleeping mainly in their bouncy seats when they get sleepy after feedings throughout the day. We're slowly introducing them to a more structured nap schedule.
I feed them, we play for 30 mins, and then they get sleepy and usually nap. Once they are down in their bouncy seats, I carry them into their room and put the bouncy's right in each of their cribs. We're trying to transition them to sleeping in their room this weekend and using nap time to get them comfortable in their own room. We're finding they are sleeping better and take longer naps using this approach. Prior to this, we'd be lucky if they slept for 45 minutes on a typical nap.

Good luck. I'm open to any tips / techniques as well since parenthood is all new to me! :)

Try not to let them be up for more than an hour at a time to prevent overtiredness (they may want to stay up 90 minutes later in the day). I read the book "Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child" to figure my kids out and it worked like a charm when they were little.

At that age, mine werent up for very long before they were back down asleep again. It wasnt until about 4 months when the morning nap started to come at a predictable time. Before then, they slept whenever and wherever.

Mine are 2 months old and nap after every feeding-sometimes they stay up for a 1/2 hour hanging out with me on the couch or in the swing. They have stayed up for 6 hours straight before also so its always different. They usually sleep for an hour, maybe 2. Then hardly ever sleep the same time for the same length.
I think in a few months I can hopefully get them on a morning and afternoon nap at the same time daily.
