Are any of you guys going to use sleep positioners when your babies are born. The reason I ask is my cousin had her baby shower a few weeks ago and she got one of these and I was wondering how common it is to use one of these.

I used them for my daughter and loved them. It kept her still on her back like I wanted her and she felt snuggled....
I will def be using them again....

I never used one. My girls were swaddled for the 1st 6 months and the only place they would sleep was in their Boppy Newborn Loungers. I don't know what I would have done without those loungers!!

Are we talking about those that sort of 'restrict' the baby from turning while they sleep?

My husband calls them "baby chalks" like you use to keep a car tire from rolling. It makes me giggle.... Anyway, yes, we are planning on using them so that we can put them in the same crib easily. We, thankfully, have been gifted with two of them, so we plan on trying it. I have heard some parents complain that their babies wouldn't stay in them. Both of my best girlfriends have tried them with their singletons. One had amazing success at keeping her roller from rolling. The other had to give up because she had a squoocher (he tried to escape an isolette) and he'd just squooch down and under it.

You can create the same effect with towels, supposedly. I've never done it, but I've seen it done. And I know in the NICU with my little 1pounder, they didn't have baby chalks small enough, so they used washcloths rolled up around her to keep her in place. The nurses said that if it was tight enough (without being too tight), that it made her feel like she was in a protective cocoon...like the womb, and allowed her to be comforted and want to stay where she was put.

    Just my two cents,
    Dominique

We used one for Finn but only for the memory foam that the head portion of the positioner was made of- we were trying to help with Finn's flat spot on his head. I don't know how much it helped but he liked sleeping in it. We stopped using it once he could roll.

I've heard that they actually can increase the risk of SIDS. I received one for my baby shower for my daughter and ended up throwing it out after learning that information.
