My boys are 4 & 1/2 months old. They never really used their sleep positioners because they would always find a way to wiggle out of them. However, now that they are learning to roll over, I'm a little hesitant to remove the sleep positioners from their cribs. I guess I'm just afraid they will roll over on their tummies and suffocate. One of our boys likes to squirm his way over to the side of the crib and his face ends up right up against the crib bumper.....which leads to my next question- should I take the crib bumpers out of the crib at any point? Could they suffocate by sleeping pressed up against them??

    I'm such a worry wart......

    TIA!

:wavey: I took the sleep positioners out around 4 months, when they started rolling. The bumpers, however, stayed in until they were out of cribs. They are great for keeping limbs from getting stuck in the slats, and also paci traps! Generally, once they start rolling, they are fine to sleep on their tummies.

I never used sleep positioners at all & once they were able to roll onto their tummies, I let them sleep that way. I left the bumpers in until they were able to pull up, then they were just standing on them & squishing them down, so I just took them out.

Yes, they can suffocate by sleeping pressed up against them bumpers-i don't even know why they make them when they can't be used. I just removed mine all together.

I did this too, took them out of the positioners around 4-5 months, and leave the bumpers up as...well...bumpers!

The suffocation risk is when you are using the more expensive/fancy bumper pads that are really thick and not breathable. We have the cheaper bumper pad sets that are very much breathable, and both my babies squirm until their faces are very close to or pressing against the bumpers, and they haven't suffocated yet :)

I dodn't use positioners or bumpers. In our baby safety class they told us both are suffocation hazards and are not recommended. Though, at this age both have only slept in their cribs twice...

I took them out once they started squirming down to the bottom on their own. About 4 months I would say. We had regular bumpers in their cribs until they transitioned to beds. I wouldnt worry about them tummy sleeping, Once they can roll, their really isnt a way to keep them on their backs all night.
