How many of you used sleep positioners with your newborns. (I think that's what they're called anyway, they keep baby on his/her back.)

If you had/have one, was/is it useful? How long did you use it? Do you think it made a difference in how well your babies slept?

Or is this just another gimmick that we could pass on?

    Comments welcome, thanks so much!

I have used them with all of my kids. It helps make it so that they are not constantly laying on the back of their heads, making it flat. [IMG] Are you having fun shopping? [IMG]

We had them and didn't use them for long. Jon quickly figured out how to throw his body over it. When they were really small, rolled up recieving blankets seemed to work just as well.

I used them for a long time!! I really liked them. I used the kind that inclined and had the positioners. I felt like the babies felt more secure in them. I hated it when they outgrew them (I can't remember exactly, but probably about 3-4 months.)

I also used them for a very long time and they were great. My twins enjoyed sleeping on their sides and this helped keep them in position. I continued to use them when the twins learned to roll onto their tummies and couldn't figure out how to roll back. This helped me from having to go in and save them. I finally got rid of them when my twins learned to roll around from tummy to back and back to tummy easily. My DS used his for about 5 months and DD for 7 months. I think they are well worth the money!

We never used them. We swaddled them and then rolled a receiving blanket and wedged it behind their back to position them on their sides occasionally (which is also what the NICU did). That worked fine until they started rolling themselves around.

We use them too. It helps keep them on their side. Plus I can't help but think it makes them feel more secure & like someone is holding them. That is proabably just my own comforting thought though, LOL!

I only use the rolls, so nothing to do with their heads. I used them for my first until she managed to get out (4-5 months) and with my twin boy ... both of them were / are not really good at tummy time. My twin girl is much better so I am less worried about that. She doesn't mind her tummy either. She's close to rolling over.

We used them for a long time and I think they really helped with head shaping, and also to calm them when fussy (sometimes putting them down on their sides would help). We used the ones that are like wedges with velcro.

Currently sleep positioners are not recommended. The newest research says that they 'can' (not do) contricute to SIDS...

    HI,

we still use them. they are great for keeping kids on their side if need be and to ensure they don't roll over. the ones we have also have a slight incline which is great for reflux

I used one, but not a side positioner. Everything I read said side sleeping was not safe. I used on that kept them on their back. We only used it for a few months though because they would wiggle out of it and then learned to roll.

I love mine. It's been great. Plus, I think she likes feeling snuggled.

We had the ones that are in the picture above. When they were in the same crib, we pushed them together and only used the tubes on the outside edges. They could cuddle together in the middle. The incline was nice.

I never used mine. My girls hated not being able to put their arms by their body. My girls also hated being swadled as well.

My older son use to spit up quite a bit after his feeds and then I started to use a recliner/positioner. He hasn't spit up as much now and quite enjoys sleeping on his positioner. However, since he is now getting bigger and stronger, he has started to 'slide' down a bit from the incliner but he still likes it there. Now, I just make sure he has more room in his crib for sleeping. I think it was a worthwhile investment.

This is the same one we used. I think we used them for about two months. I never laid mine on their sides.

I LOVED ours - we used them for quite a few months. My boys had pretty bad reflux as well and I liked the slight recline or tilt to keep them from spitting up and choking on it. I never laid them on their side but I did tilt slightly (also helped keep their heads shaped).
