Has anyone used the sleep positioners for their babies? I received 2 from a baby shower and I'm wondering if they'll be useful for my twins (due Feb 26th) or if it's better to just swaddle them and put them right next to each other in the crib.

    Any advice/options?

    Thanks.

Great post… my neighbor gave me hers from her twins … I never used them with my son… My husband and I were wondering what they were for just this morning…
cant wait to see what people have to say...

We got some that are raised just a little and use them when my two sleep in the their co-sleeper. (Which is not often because it seems they will only sleep in their swings...)
It works for me because my DD moves a lot and tends to wake up DS if they are any where near each other.

We used our sleep positioners until the boys were about two months old until we found out First Candle, the SIDS Alliance frowns upon them. Babies can often scrunch themselves down in their sleep, turn their head to the side and then might mash their face into the "cheese wedge." After reading that, DH and I took them out of their cribs and there were fine sleeping without them!

I was also wondering what they are for, I never used any for my DD. Now that you're saying that, I know I won't get any for the twins!

I have never used them, and we don't use them at our center. It is better just to wrap them tightly if they have the desire for that. My oldest DD hated to be wrapped up or have blankets on her. My DS on the other hand loved to be wrapped as tightly as possible and prefered to sleep in his carrier. My youngest DD liked to be wrapped slightly and layed in her crib, so she was somewhere in the middle. They are all different... I would wait and see what your twins like. I don't think they are necessary and if the SIDS Alliance is against them, then I wouldn't use them for anything. They are the ones who do the research, and I have to say that I trust their judgement before a manuafacture.

We registered for them and used them (or tried to use them) once. Both kids hated them. My daughter was happy being swadled and my son hated to be swadled.

I got some at a shower too, but I took them back after I read about the risk of SIDS. I also heard from another twin mother that you don't really need them anyway. Swaddling works just fine...

I used mine every time the babies were put down for 2 months when they outgrew them.

It helped alot with the reflux and kept them from hitting one another. They HATED being swaddled. Even in the hospital Thomas would freak when we swaddled him!

I used one with son #1 who had reflux, it seemed to help keep him on his side. You are technically not supposed to put anything in the crib with a baby. I'm not putting anything other than the babies in their halo blankets in the crib this time. I have gotten much more paranoid about all of these things over time :) .

have always read not to use them because of the increased risk of SIDS plus there are no regulations for them.

I was curious if they could be a suffocation hazard so this is definitely the information I was looking for. I haven't opened them yet so I'll return them. I'll just stick to swaddling. My son and daughter were both fine that way.

Thanks for the information and input.

I received one before my son was born. I opened the box, laid it in the crib and said "That looks like a suffocation hazard!" I put it back in the box and returned it. I just swaddled my son snuggly every night (which he LOVED until he was strong enough to wriggle out of it (around 4 months).

I just went to a Baby Saver class at our hospital last night & they said not to use them. My girlfriend had Identical twins last summer & used them & told me to get them as well, which I did but will now take them back. Better safe then sorry.
