So it's been a few years since older DS was a teeny tiny babe and I don't remember much about those early days with him. But what are typical newborn sleeping patterns like? Our twins are 2 weeks, 2 days old and just came home from the NICU on Monday. While they were there they were on a 3 hour feeding schedule. They seem to maintain that during the day, sometimes they want to eat a little earlier. At night though the first two nights they were waking up every 2 hours. The last two nights though they have slept a good solid 4 hours before waking up to eat. Is this going to last or do you think we'll go back to every 2 hours?

Because to be honest, I actually feel human this morning after getting better sleep last night and I think I may cry if we go back to getting up every hr and a half!

My girls woke up every 2 - 3 hours to eat when they were newborns.

Actually I think for the first week they weren't waking on their own and we set an alarm and woke them, but after 2 weeks or so they were waking on their own. I always woke the 2nd one after the first one was done eating.

Mine didn't start going longer than every 3 hours until 12 weeks.

Sounds about the same as mine at that age. They were waking every 3 hours to eat... then unfortunately their sleep got more sporatic (varying amount of hours) before it got better again.

Being that young & straight out of NICU I would bet you aren't going to start getting a consistent 4 hours at night quite yet.

Ours were on a self-imposed 3-hour feed-to-feed schedule at that age until about...oh....maybe 10 weeks or so when they started going more like 4 or 5 hours at night.

You might see more frequent feedings around 4 weeks old and again at 6 for a few nights if they are prepping for a growth spurt.

The first sleep gradually got longer...say 4 hr, then 3 or 2.5 the rest of the night.

Then the first sleep was 5 hr...then 6 hr...now we're up to 7 hr ! Two nights in a row, only one feeding! (Hope it continues). (Of course, she still eats every 1.5 to 2 hr during the day...she's a power-napper).
