My twins just turned one a couple weeks ago. I think they sleep more than most babies their age. They've been on the same nap schedule since they were 7 or 8 month old.

They wake up between 8-8:30 am. They go down for their first nap about 10:30. They take another nap about 1:30 or 2. Then they go for a third nap about 6 or 6:30. Bedtime is between 9 and 9:30.

This just seems like so much sleeping to me. Is this normal?

i think it sounds like the right amount of sleep but i think by that age a majority of babies are taking more of their sleep at night (11 - 12 hours) and less during the day (2 naps). have you thought about dropping their third nap & moving their bedtime earlier in the day?

OTOH, if it's working for you & your babies, i wouldn't worry about changing it because of what they "should" or "shouldn't" be doing, KWIM?

I agree with Rachel, at one, they usually are getting more of their sleep at night and if you were going to drop a nap, I would agree with dropping the third one and having an earlier bedtime. But if they are happy with the sleep they get and you are happy with it too, I don't think I'd change it.

Thanks. I have considered dropping the third nap, but have decided against it each time because their Daddy doesn't get home from work until about 8 pm. This way he can see them! (and help with bedtime!!! hehehe!)

Thanks for the advice. I feel better just knowing they really aren't sleeping too much!

I agree that if it works, then you don't need to change anything. We made our guys bedtime 8pm so we'd have time to spend with them after work, and it's worked out really well for us! :) When they're ready to transition to less sleep/2 naps you may have to do some tweaking, but it sounds like they're healthy and happy, and that's what's important!
