my girl is a day sleeper! anyone else have this... have tried many things to wake her for feedings and activity but she just dozes back off to sleep. she does have periods of alertness but they are on her own terms and usually in the middle of the night! i have tried changing her diaper, being without many clothes, talking to her, playing music... what other tactics can i try to help get her days and nights on track... or do i just suffer thru until she gets older?

Well, start by feeding her every 2-3 hours, no matter what. Do everything possible to get her to wake up including dripping cold water on her forehead. it's not torture, but it'll certainly irritate her, but the milk will calm her. Tickle her, blow on her face (this one my mother did with my boys and it worked very well). They hated getting blown in the face and would wake up every time. The naked feeding only works with some babies. Keep it light in the house during the day. Don't keep things quiet. Talk cheerfully and bubbly around her during the day, but at night, lower the lights, talk softly and slowly. Use slow movements and be gentle. Play soft music on the radio. Those are cues to your babies that it's sleep time. Eventually they'll both start waking more during the day and sleeping more during the night. that's what I had to do. One of my boys was just like your girl. It worked very well! They both were sleeping through the night by 2 1/2 months. However, it did not take that long to get their nights adjusted. Once your girl starts deep sleeping at night (deep sleep is harder to wake them up and is supposed to be the sleep at night), keep up with the routine so she does not fall out of the schedule. Closer to 5 months, she'll be set in her schedule as far as when to deep sleep, but even I keep up with the schedule so my boys sleep better regardless.

I would just let her be for now. Pretty soon she will be awake more and more during the day. If she was 3 months old and you were saying this I would suggest leaving her unswaddled or try putting her on an activity mat for stimulation. But at 1 month old she is so young that I don't think I would try anything just yet!

It sounds like you're doing everything right, it's just hard to keep them awake when they are that young. As far as nights go, at that age, I did whatever worked to get them back to sleep the fastest. For Emma, that meant sleeping in her swing, and for Jake it was sleeping in bed with me. If you can get her back to sleep a little quicker at night, she might be more alert during the day. GL!

I had mine nap in the PNP in the kitchen during the day. The lights were on, sometimes the TV or the dishwasher was going, and things would get loud. At night, all business but do what you need to do to get her back to sleep ASAP. Hang in there, she is still young. She will eventually get the hang of being more alert during the day.

Same- except we had the pnp in our extremely bright living room with the TV on and people coming and going all day (including construction crew since we were remodeling our kitchen at the time).
