Skipping naps

I have read so many stories of people who skip naps with their kids once and awhile and then just put them down earlier for bedtime. Well, I thought I would try this out on the weekends when DH is around. We go out someplace for like 5-6hrs (and the kids do nap for like 30min in the stroller), and then when we bring them home they have their second nap. Well, both times we have done this, we have payed for it dearly for the 3-4 hrs before bedtime! They cry, whine, fuss, cling to me (or DH if they are desperate), and this is not their disposition at all, normally they are pretty happy.

So I guess skipping naps is not for us - darn! Anyone else try this with the same outcome...

Hopefully soon you'll be able to move them to 1 nap per day. It allows more flexibility and larger windows of time to get out of the house.

Anyway, it's VERY common for overtired kids to drive parents crazy in the evening hours.

My kids are 3 and giving up naps. It's depressing. Enjoy the nap(s) while they last. Believe me, you'll miss the down time when it's gone.

If by that you mean "Do your kids make your life a living hell when they don't get enough sleep?", why yes they do. I recall vividly one night in particular when DH was at a game after work and I had two angry little hornets throwing themselves on the floor and shreiking that they didn't want to wear pajamas and weren't tired. Wish I had that on video.

Our fun comes after they finally go to sleep, though. You see, both of them get confusional arousals when they're overtired. So, they spend some time every hour or so screaming bloody murder in their sleep until around 1AM. It's a hoot.

And people wonder why I'm such a schedule-a-holic.

Bingo. It's just not worth it! Maybe some kids are ok with skipping naps here and there, but mine sure aren't.

Oh ya. I can not SKIP or even delay a nap w/o suffering terribly.

    Not worth it.

Yeah, that only has started working for us in the last few months. When they were as young as yours I would pay dearly if I had them out during nap and they didn't get a proper nap.
