I have twin grandsons that just turned 18 months old so you would think I would know the answer to this, but daughter and I are of two minds concerning the sizing of clothes for the new baby - he'll be a month old at the end of the week. Well the boys were 8 weeks early so everything they had was so small for such a long time and their new brother came screeching into this world at a whopping 9 pounds 11 ounces. Even so - now compared to the boys he looks teeny, tiny. Daughter and I were out shopping for some blue jeans for the baby to match the twins for this winter. I picked up a 3 month size to buy (not 0-3) it had a straight 3 months on it and the next size was 6 months (not 3-6 months). My thinking is because it had just the 3 months - and the next size offered is 6 months that the particular pair of pants marked 3 (only) was 3 up to 6 months. My daughter was thinking that since most things are 0-3 that it was up to three months. Well by her way of thinking I picked up the 6 month pair to purchase and those things just looked huge beside him. My questions - if something is marked 3 months and the next size offered is 6 months - what would be in between if it didn't go 3 months up to 6. I know he's a big baby but I don't want to get something that is just absolutely going to swallow him and make him look like he's wearing his big brothers clothes. What is your opinion on size marking? I figure it's going to be about two more months before we even think about putting them in jeans but by then all the sizes will be picked over. In two more months he will be three months old so I figure the smaller size. He's growing but not that terribly fast. If something has just 3 months on it so you figure it's up to 3 months or 3 months to 6? I am now totally confused about sizing.

I think it's the low end. For example, DD's been wearing 3-6 months clothes this summer, but she went from size 3 month to size 6 month onesies over a month ago - she still fits in the 3/6 month stuff. Same for DS, who's still mostly in 6/9 months, but the 6 month stuff is too tight/short now and he needs 9 month.

    Hope it helps.

For my girls, size 3 months like in Carters for example, was the same as a 0 - 3 month size of Gymboree or Baby Gap. A size 6 months at Carters was the same as a size 3 - 6 months at Gymboree/Gap, but sometimes they could also fit into something marked 6 - 9 months at this time too. Now they are wearing size 9 months and can fit into the 6 - 12 month size but it's a little big.

So for my girls it would be like this:
    0 - 3 months = 3 months
    3 - 6 months = 6 months
6 - 12 months = 9 months and probably will still fit them for 12 months too.

    HTH and makes sense!

I know with Carters, 3 months is like 0-3 months. It has the weight listed. 6 months is like 3-6 months. I'm not sure about other brands.

If it is Carter's, Just One Year or any other Carter's brand then the sizing is 3M = 0-3, 6M = 3-6, 9M = 6-9, etc. Basically what they are saying is that it will fit UP TO that month. I hope that makes sense.

All clothing fits differently. Its hard with small baby sizes because a 3 month in one brand fits perfect and in another its huge. Its all trial and error <_< But I had a 9 lb DD and she wore the 0-3 month clothing for maybe a week. So if I were you, I would skip that sizing all together and go for the 3-6 months.

Then add to that that some brands shrink more so run smaller too, lol.

But that's the idea... 6m is the top end of 3-6 months, and the bottom end of 6-9 month.

I would buy both sizes, keep the tags on and save the receipts.
