My girls will be 8 months old on the 30th, but they did come at 34 weeks 6 days...I am starting to get worried cause they still are not sitting up. The passing all their other "milestones"...they roll like crazy, they say ma ma ma, da da da, ba ba ba, they stand perfectly when you hold them up righ, they move things from one hand to another etc etc, but they just can't seem to sit up....my husband says its not a big deal, what do you all think?

Now do you mean sitting independently or getting into the sitting position?

I wouldn't worry -- my two aren't really doing any of those things! Our pedi doesn't seem to be worried in the least.

My DS rolls all over, and although DD *can* roll (I've seen it once!), she doesn't like being on her tummy, so she doesn't do it. She definitely can't roll from tummy to back.

Both of them "tripod" for a few seconds if you sit them upright, but then fall over. DD flails about so much that she just throws herself backwards and bonks her head, LOL.

Both babble some, too, but not dada or mama. DD says "yah-yah-yah" while DS isn't quite into syllables yet....

It's been hard for me not to worry, because my older DD was way ahead of these two at the same age -- she was getting into the sitting position, and also doing a regular crawl before 7 months. But, she came at 40 weeks, and these guys came at 35 -- I think it makes a big difference. Also, it's so cliche to say so, but all babies are different -- you probably see huge personality differences just between your two (I know I do).

Try not to worry, and if it's really bugging you, just call your pedi -- I'm sure you'll be reassured.

Mine did not sit up for more then a few seconds at a time without holding them up...the first time they sat up independantly they were 8 months before that they just didn't want to and they took their first steps at 11m...I wouldn't worry a bit.

My girls can "tripod" with help. It sounds like they are doing the same thing, sit up by themselves for a few seconds and then they fall right over :p

Thanks for the responses, it makes me feel better! :)

Mine just sat up one day. It happened overnight! Looking back at pics, they were around 8.5 mos old.

I had one early sitter at 5 months(she had a wide "base"), and then there was Jake who did not sit up until 8 months, which was after he was crawling for quite awhile!

Mine started sitting independently at ~7.5 mo corrected age. It sounds like everything's ok! But by all means talk to your pedi if you're concerned, just for your peace of mind.

Both of my kids didn't sit up by themselves (they could sit if we put them that way) until they learned to crawl.

I've had the same worry and to be honest, it really made me feel better to give Early Intervention a call. I then made an appointment with my pedi to have him evaluate them to see if EI was necessary. He said that while they don't seem behind enough to NEED it, it certainly wouldn't hurt and it would provide some assurance that I was at least being proactive about the situation. He also said that many doctors automatically refer twins and or babies born prematurely to EI but he feels that's a bit excessive. It took a lot for me to make that call but I feel better having done it. I'm by no means saying this is something you should do. Just saying what helped me. I'm sure neither of us have anything to worry about :)

7 and 8 months were when my twins did tons of stuff! They started rocking on all fours and then it seemed like they were sitting up and crawling within weeks of each other. My guess is yours will do the same thing. I was freaked out also because my oldest child was sitting up without any help by 6 months. They all do things at different times!

One of my girls was sitting at 6 months, but couldn't get herself into a sitting position until she could pull up at 9 months.
My other girl couldn't sit if we put her in a sitting position (she just wouldn't stay still long enough). She finally started sitting up on her own, first tripoding at 8 months, and then all on her own by 9 months. Imagine my surprised when the next week she started pulling up! If you are worried call your pedi, but I think this all within normal. GL!

Beau crawled first then he figured out how to sit up... Savannah has wanted to sit up since she was 3 months old yet just figured it out at about 7.5-8 months... I would not worry at all... i am sure it will come very soon...

Dont worry about it much. The all develop at their own pace and before you know it they will be crawling all over the place. My sister's baby was crawling before she could pull herself into a sitting position and that was at 10 months.
