I know that this will happen in its own time but for those of you that have sitting kiddos, what did you do, if anything, to help them learn to sit independently? I practice with them just sitting in my lap and sometimes in a boppy but they don't seem too interested in it. Any ideas on how I can get them to be a little bit more motivated to sit?

    Thanks!

I just did it everyday a little at a time. I started really early, because I knew this was something I wanted them to master. And they were able to sit unassisted before 6 months. But, I have trouble wi th tummy time, so maybe it's just that your kiddos aren't ready yet. I think ever baby is interested in doing different accomplishments at different times.

Very true!! Emma has been sitting since 5 months, Jacob can tripod sit, but is not steady like Emma. Jacob likes to stand and is also starting to crawl, Emma has no desire to do either!!

I would just keep working with them like you are...they will get it!! [IMG]

I didn't do anything with Ainsley, she just did it one day at 7.5 months. I was holding her in the sitting position while supporting her back and she was playing with one of those toys that hang on the side of the crib. Suddenly, she pulled herself more upright and away from my hand and just sat there by herself.

With Sierra, was used a Boppy to help her along. They both loved their Learning Gyms (electronic toys were in front of them so they could play while seated) and Ainsley would sit at one while we'd prop Sierra in the Boppy in front of hers. At first, we had to put extra receiving blankets under the back of the Boppy to move the Boppy up Sierra's back a little and give her more support. As she got better at sitting, we removed the blankets and, finally, the Boppy.

I just made a conscious effort everyday to put them sitting with toys. I would get on the ground with them so when they tipped over, I could right them. In a just a couple weeks I noticed a marked difference! Just keep working with them.

Toys, toys and more toys to keep them interested in sitting up! I practiced a little bit everyday after they were were nice and full, but not too full to throw up! [IMG]

Using the boppy helped us quite a bit. If they did tople over it wasn't too far, and the fall was cushioned. Get down on the floor with them and make eye contact to encourage them to want to look up and be nearer to your face. Also putting a toy in their lap helps to give them an incentive to stay upright. Work it a couple of times a day every day, and don't be too quick to correct them when they lean a bit, let them figure out gravity and how to correct themselves. Good luck!

I just put them on the floor between my legs and put a toy in front of them, on the floor. I did that a lot with them. Brooklyn can sit independently totally by herself and Kaeden can sit for a little while but falls to the side or backwards if I dont support him a little.
