what age did you LO's start sitting up unassisted? Mine prefer to be lying down playing with toys on their backs or rolling over to their tummies and playing from there, they just dont seem to have any interest in sitting up to play. I've tried sitting them between my legs and they may last 2 minutes before they slide against me and want to be on the ground again? How can I help them learn to sit up on their own?

I could put mine into a sitting position at 6 months and they would stay that way. Mine would sit up (without needing to be put in a sitting position) when they began to crawl. This was at 8 and 9 months.

One of my DDs would sit for a few minutes unassisted at 6 months, but she could get herself into that position and the only way she got out of it was by falling backwards. My other DD refused to sit until she could get herself into and out of that position and that wasn't until 9 months.

I've been wondering too... None of mine will sit more than 10 seconds when I put them that way... and they don't seem interested in sitting either. Even in my lap they try to roll to their tummy.

My son can sit up unassisted for a good period of time since 7 months, however he can not get in sitting position by himself yet (he's not crawling yet but oh, so close). My daughter can sit up unassisted and stay there since she started crawling about 2-3 weeks ago.

Karina just started sitting last week if we put her in the sitting position. On Sunday she pushed herself into a sitting position twice, but I haven't seen her do that since. I keep forgetting to ask day care if she has done it there. Anyway, they just turned 9 months yesterday, but they are about 7 months adjusted. Annelise is scooting all over the place, but has absolutely no interest in sitting. She falls over if placed in sitting position and cries if you try to hold her up in sitting position (unless she's on someone's lap).

Mine can now sit unassisted... they could do it really well just shy of 6 mo adjusted. When they're on their backs, they try to sit up by doing a crunch.. they don't yet realize that they need to leverage their hands. They're not really close to crawling yet though (They're 8 mo/ 6.5 adj).

Mitchell just started sitting up in the last few days. Colin has no interest in it and would rather stand or lay on his back. My Dd was 6 months when she was sitting up. I know we are not suppose to compare but Mitchell is rolling all over the place, sitting up early and jumps like crazy in the jolly jumper. Colin can roll over but only does it occasionally and doesn't seem motivated to do much of anything.

I had one who liked to sit up (anytime he was reclined he kept trying to sit up) and was sitting proficiently on his own a litttle before 5 months. His brother on the other hand showed absolutely no interest and refused to sit at all until after he learned to crawl a few days before 6 months. To this day when I sit him down he will stay that way for a minute or two until he looses interest in whatever is playing with then he will flip to all 4s and either crawl off or lay down on his tummy. Even when we hold him he loves to stand, but arches his back and tries to escape anytime we try to make him sit.

My DD could sit unassisted at 6 months, then at 7 months could put herself in a sitting position from lying down; my DS, on the other hand, can now sit unassisted (started at 7ish months), but still can't put himself in a sitting position at 8 months.

You could try having them sit in Bumbo's, high chairs, exersaucers, etc. for longer periods of the days - seems to help develop their "sitting" muscles?

Olivia can sit 5-10 minutes (with toys in her lap) at 6.5 months. Just a week ago though, she still kept falling over.

The twins were closer to 7-8 months, but htey were born 6 weeks early.

Zachary did great at 6/7 months, but Ryan set better at 7/8 months.

Mine were between 8 and 9 months before they were really able to sit well and get in and out of the sitting position.
