Just wondering how common it is for babies to crawl before they can sit up alone. My girls will be 7 months old tomorrow and they cant do either one but they seem like they are very close to crawling and they can sit up with support but are not good at balancing themselves so I think it might be another few weeks before they can sit alone. Also wondering about what age they usually start sitting/crawling?

My girls just started sitting without support in the last month or so. They still fall over every now and then, but they do pretty good. Kate is attempting to crawl for the last month. She gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth, but hasn't quite figured it completely out. I would say sitting probably generally comes first. The more they practice, the better they get.

my girls started sitting unsupported at around 8.5 months. they started crawling at 10 months. although, neither of them has put themselves into a sitting position (from laying down) yet. so not sure what's up with that...

Both of my boys were crawling at least a month before they were reliably sitting on their own. I think all kids are different!

My girls started sitting around 8 months actual (5 months adjusted) and were crawling around 9 months actual age.

Mine started sitting up around 6 months [6 mos 3 wks unassisted for more than 5 mins], then started crawling at around 7.5 months. They started pulling up on things a little after 8 months.

Bob started crawling at like 5.5 months and while he would be on hands and knees he'd rock back to sit down. So he kind of learned to sit because he was crawling. Miles army crawled for months before he sat up.

I think the most common way would be sitting up before crawling. No harm in doing it the other way around though!

I agree with the others, every baby is different. My W was crawling for several weeks before he could sit unsupported, and he could even get himself into sitting position from crawling but then he'd topple over. For him, it was crawling that helped him develop his sitting skills. R, on the other hand, was able to sit unsupported before crawling. He's still not fully crawling, sort of an army crawl. Yesterday, for the first time, he got himself into sitting position!

Jake was the only one that crawled before sitting, and he sat at 8.5 months. They all started crawling somewhere between 6-8 months.

DS sat up first then crawled later on. My LOs were sitting unassisted at approx 7.5 months but DD can“t figure out how to sit up or to crawl as yet though she stands well.
