first of all, thanks for taking the time to read this, as we are all buisy with the kids... My girls are id. they are 6.5 months old, and hate anything to do with sitting up. They roll around, and army craw all over the place. just in the last day or two, they both got their knees under them and were up on all 4's, but then fall and look confused. :) but when I try to sit them up, they wiggle, fuss and cry to get back on the floor. they dont like to be proped up on pillows. I sit up and put my legs in a "V" shape and sit the babys against me and they grunt and cry to get down.they both can do maybe 5-10 seconds of a tripod sit unassisted, but then go down. My mom was kind enough to buy those bumbo things.. they are great if i put the kids in them to feed them, but they fuss in those too. we do have bouncie chairs that we use to feed them, and they are fine in them. We do have jump-a-roos for them, which they love to be in.. I dont get it. their dr said its nothing medical, to ask you ladies..(their dr is a big fan of this site) I tried the bopys that i have and they roll themselves over it.. my other kids never had this issue.. im at a loss, and mo(child before twins) was 4 in march so quite honistly, i dont even remember this part. I thought they had to learn to sit up before they craw.. Im sure they will like it eventually, or at least learn to do it eventually.. thoughts???

Both my babies could crawl before they could sit, and they couldn't sit very well unassisted until about 8-9 months if i remember right.

Just sounds to me like they just prefer to move! ;) They are doing everything else developmentally correct, then I wouldn't worry too much! When they are ready to sit still and play with one toy, that's when they'll start sitting up better. Until then, you can practice, but don't force them. They are just ready to explore their new world!

I had a bumbo and both kids would arch themselves backward and try to straighten out, so I said screw that and got rid of it and just sat with them. My one daughter especially hated sitting intiallly. At about 6 month another friend of mine with twin suggested sitting them in front of the play gym (that thing that has stuff dangling from it) and let them reach with both hands to grab onto stuff. This helps them build the muscles, when they lean to far forward they can use what they are holding onto to push or pull. I found my one daugher has a long arm reach and would grab an arch in both hands. Honestly with in a week they were sitting up great. I wouldn't worry too much if they aren't that keen on sitting. Eventually they will get it. It does make playtime a lot more fun!

Lennox hated to sit too at that age. He would stiffen up when ever I tried to sit him up. He liked laying on the floor. He only just started liking me to put him in a seated position 2 weeks ago and as of a couple of days ago.....

I agree with the pp. Neither of mine liked to sit until they figured out how to do it themselves. DS was crawling by 7 months and putting himself into a sit by 7 1/2 months. DD used to just like to roll everywhere and started army crawling about 8 months. I finally got her to the point where she COULD sit by 9 months but she didn't like to and just started putting herself into a sit about 10 months, about the time she also started pulling herself up. Don't stress about it. Sitting is only a milestone for trunk strength/tone. If they have the strength to get on all fours, then there is nothing to worry about as far as trunk strength. I wouldn't force them to sit except for feeding times. I personally think Bumbos are a waste of space and money!
