UUGH - Libbey does NOT sleep well. She had reflux/gas constantly so is uncomfortable poor thing. Anyway - I laid her sown on her tummy to try and work out some of the gas while I was getting Josie to sleep and LIBBEY PUT HERSELF TO SLEEP! She has been sleeping for 45 minutes now NOT IN MY ARMS!!!!!!!!!

I did the same thing with my reflux baby! She was a horrible sleeper, until we started her tummy sleeping and she is now the better sleeper of the two. I think they feel more comforted with a bit of pressure on their tummies. I was worried about the breathing thing, too... so I would have her nap on the couch so I could keep an eye on her. Same thing at night - she slept in a bassinet next to my side of the bed so I could hear her if she spit up or anything. After a few weeks with great sleeping and no incidents, I felt comfortable not having to watch her sleep all the time.

Now they are old enough to lift their heads so no problem. But, I am glad you discovered that! When we were little, the "common knowledge" was to always put babies on their tummys to sleep. Now it is the back. I say, whatever works!

I put all my kids to sleep on their stomach after the first month. It makes a huge difference in how they sleep, especially with reflux. I know there is an increased risk of SIDS, but I always lay them down on the very firm smooth surface of their crib mattress. BTW, SIDS is NOT suffocation. It's caused when a baby just forgets to breath. The reason "back to sleep" helps is because the baby doesn't fall into as deep a sleep. So basically anytime your baby is warm or comfy, there is an increased risk of SIDS. Kind of stinks, doesn't it?

Mines have been sleeping on their belly since they were about three months with good head and neck movement.

We had sleeping/reflux issues the first few months, so I put them on their stomachs and things improved GREATLY! And they look so much more comfortable sleeping on their stomachs. I used to watch them too, but after a while, I got used to the idea as well. Heck--my mom raised all of us sleeping on our stomachs.

GOd, I am so glad I'm not the only one who does this. I have the Angel care monitor and I only do it for naps, not at night, but do you know how much s**t I've gotten for it. I've gotten to the point I don't admit doing it. Of course I did only have the courage to start it once they were over a month old. (They're 15 weeks now)

I did this once with DS when he wa about 2 or 3 weeks old as he was such a bad napper due to colic. He slept straight for 4 hours and it was great for everyone. As long as you keep a close eye on her then it should be OK.

All my children slept of their tummies. They were also all reflux babies, and they slept much, much better that way. I know I can't ever tell people to do it, but I did it and all my children are just fine.

I would start my babies out on their backs, but have always moved them to their bellies within a few weeks to a few months. They do sleep better that way. Also I run a fan in their rooms, have done that for over 13 years. Cool thing is, I recently read an article that says fans reduce the rate of SIDS.

I was worried like crazy when my kids first started sleeping on their tummies. Maybe for reassurance, maybe you can get an angel monitor or perhaps remove any crib bumpers/stuffed animals that may interfere with breathing. Also running a humidifier is helpful too. Hope you get some peace of mind!
