My guys are 5 months old now, woohoo, and I was reading about the fifth month in What to Expect the First Year and it said that you could start to introduce the cup this month. We are just starting solids and I can't even imagine bringing the sippy cup into the picture now or even a month from now. When did you introduce the cup to your LO's? When did they start holding their own bottle?

    Thanks,
    Maura

I think we started the sippy cups at 7 months.

I started at 6 months. They don't use them on a regular basis just yet. Right now I just put a little water in them so they get the hang of it. All that's happening now is they get themselves soaked because they chew on the sippy part because they don't swallow.

I started putting a sippy cup on the tray at mealtimes at about 7 months or so. Once they could pick it up they would just study it. It probably wasnt until about 9 months that they could take a sip on their own.

For holding their own bottle mine did it about the end of 10 months...just in time to start dropping bottles. Big help! :D

I started them around 5.5 months and they really had the hang of it by 6.5 months. It really didn't tak too long, but when we first started they looked at them and had no idea what to do. My mom gave me a good, (but silly) suggestion. She said to lt them see us drink from them. So we bought four sippies and Jay and I fed them dinnere, offered them theirs and drank water from ours. It was a funny but like I said, silly memory. They caught on quick!!

We were very early with the cups b/c Griffin went on strike from the ba-ba! At 4 months when I handed him the cup, he drove it straight to his mouth and sucked! I couldn't believe it. We started with the soft Nuby cups and they loved them, kinda have a nipple like top..Anyway by 6 months they were using them all day every day...! We actually put a juice/water mix into them at first and they went crazy over it!

We did give sippy cups with a bit of water in them a few weeks ago, they do get the idea of sticking the spout in their mouth and even sucking, but don't quite get the idea of tipping the cup up to actually get any liquids out. So, right now they are more like toys. I like the idea of getting a few more and showing them how to do it, dh and I using them too!
