    Hi guys,

when did you all start introducing sippy cups? my ped suggested we start a little water in sippy's so they can practice but i'm a little unsure how to go about it. which ones do you guys use?? do you have a preference, or are they all the same?

we have (got for free when we bought the bottles) a sippy from Born Free... but i just tried to drink out of it and its SO FREAKIN HARD... i can't image the babies being able to suck outta that thing.

We starte about 5 mo. I took the plug out so the water flow freely. It leaks when they throw it aroudn but they get water that way. I have ones with handles which I love and they love to grab.

I just started letting my girls play around with them yesterday. One of them started holding her own bottle last week so I figured sippies was worth a shot. They did pretty well considering!!
I held it for a minute to show them water came out of it and I placed their hands on the handles to show them how to hold it a few times and then let them do it.

    Have fun!!

I started giving mine the soft spout Gerber sippy around 8 months or so . They couldn't figure out how to tip it though. Our therapist recommended a straw cup and they figured it out on the first try. I gave one to Elizabeth last week and she figured it out in about 2 minutes! I recommend the straw cups! Also, they are better for speech development :)

I started mine last weekend when they turned 6 months. I got the NUBY ones at Walmart for $3 a piece and they can control the flow. The handles and 'rings' on top and bottom have bumps for them to gnaw on. DS figured it out immedietly and DD needed a few minutes. I just make a little extra formula and put that in there. They do have to put their heads back a little but can drink just fine.

    Here are the pics:

Mine couldn't get the hang of regular sippies, so we used the straw sippies (like pp mentioned), and they caught on quickly. That's all they've used since.

i've been trying to get them to use regular sippies for over a month, and just today DS sucked out of it!! i also introduced without the valve, but they make such a mess, and i end up holding it....

will be buying straw cups this weekend to see how they work out

i've read really really good things about the nuby, that's what we're going for...i have 2 kinds right now, but very similar, with handles and a hard spout covered in gummy material, one is playtex and the other are from a souvenir shop i guess (they have their names and were a gift from MIL, she got them on a trip over the summer)

We started about 6 months. A friend's pedi recommended the Take N Toss cups for training since there is no valve so the water drips out a little. I would constantly put their hands on the cup and teach them to bring it to their mouth. Once it was there, I squeezed the cup slightly so the water would come out. One of my girls caught on to it right away, the other one took much longer.

I didn't introduce them until 6 months. Meara got it right away, but it took Ana a little time to get the hang of it. By 9 months they were using them really well.

I started letting them hold the sippy and encouraged them to use it when we started feeding cereal around 4-5 months. We tried different kinds. They did the best with the avent magic cups. I also tried nuby (which I hated and they would always get choked on those) and also the gerber transitions cup. They did well with the gerber with help but it was a little heavy for them. Avery had a hard time getting the sippy and we took a break and I let them use the straw kind for a while but we are going to get rid of bottles soon so we are working on the regular sippy cups again and she is doing great.

We actually love the Nuby ones---and that is after trying three or four other kinds. Just goes to show that each kid has their own preference, so definitely get a few and see which ones work best. And BTW---Traci Roo----how ARE you? I haven't *seen* you in ages! I hope all is well and we will get to hear more from you!
