When did everyone start the sippy cup? Our twins are 8 1/2 months old.

When should I introduce the sippy cup?

How do I do it? Just put a little formula in there and see what happens?

Also, what is the best brand to start out with? I guess I want the slowest flowing mouthpiece possible, right?

Thanks for your wonderful help (as always! :) )

I have quite the sippy cup grave yard in my cabinet, and I never found a cup my girls really like until Rachel (DATJmom) suggested this one. I started introducing sippy's at about 7 months, but didn't fully transition until they were 12 months adjusted. When I started introducing them, I just used water in them.

We introduced the sippy cup at 7 months but they didn't really even try to do anything with it until 11 months. We used water and after all the sippy's we went through our favorite was/is the First Year's Take n' Toss cups. :good: It doesn't have a valve at all but it doesn't come spewing out to choke them.

    Good luck!!

We used the First Years Take N Toss 5 ounce cups as well as our first ones. They dont have a valve in them so they are much easier to get a sip out of. Then we went through a ton of different ones and finally settled on the Munchkin ones that Kyrstyn pointed out in her answer. Mine still use those.

At first we just put water in them with their meals.

My two are getting the hang of it with the Take-n-Tosses as well. I'm going to try to switch them to something else soon b/c the TnT's are getting water everywhere.

We just put water in them and have been offering sippies at meals (when I remember!) for the past month or so. It's only in the past couple weeks that they've started actually drinking anything.

We started with sippies around 7 months with a little water in them. Meara got it right away, but Ana needed a little time. I also have a sippy grave yard in my cabinet (actually I did until 3 weeks ago when I donated them). We finally settled on the playtex first sipsters. The handles made them easy for the girls to hold and the valve works really well (although I took it out to show Ana how to use it at first).

I started around 9 months old and also just with water. My girls prefer the gerber taining cups. I can't find a picture of it online but it's the beginning Gerber cup, it says for 7 months+ on the package and it has handles and a hard spout.

We started sippy cups with the boys at about 6 1/2 months. We started just with water and the take-n-toss were great to start ans they are what we use when we go out. Now we are trying to find that perfect sippy cup. So far we have tried 3 different kinds of the Nuby cups (no valve, but they don't leak), 2 different kinds of Gerber cups and 1 kind of playtex cups. They prefer the take-n-toss but also really like these and these, so I think these are what we will be sticking with for now.

I'm a big fan of the Nuby cups and that is what worked best for the actual total transition to milk/sippy cups. When they were 10 months, I let them have water in these Gerber cups because they did not leak at all. Everything else left water all over my house. Now the boys use the take n toss cups most.

    now is a good time!

I used mine with water at mealtimes (solids). They quickly learned to pick it up but needed a little guidance with tipping it up. They are both experts now!

Im from the UK and I use Tommee Tippee sippy cups. The mouthpiece can be folded down (very handy for future travel) which is great as I don´t have a the battle of having to take them away, I just fold it down and they carry on!

Thanks for your wonderful help (as always! :) )
    You´re welcome, hope I´ve helped! :)
