Does anyone have advice for how to teach lo's not to throw their sippy cups? My lo's are 13 months old and when they are done drinking (or eating their food) they throw their sippy cups (or food) off their high chair trays and onto the floor. The food I get-they're done and they don't want anymore. But they seem to want their sippy cups again when they get thirsty. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

Anticipation. When you figure they're done, take them away. It's hard.

My boys only seem to do this when they are in their high chairs. I have stopped giving them back to them and that has helped slightly. They have access to them all the time so we are really stressing setting your cup down nicely. They are catching onto that without a problem and now set their cups down on the coffee table without issues 9 out of 10 times. I think in their high chairs they are just ready to get down and that is why they do it so much while they are in them.

Yup, this is what we had to do. 13-15 months was the height of throwing things off the high chair and I took as once it was thrown, they were done with it. I started off with three chances and moved to what Jackie did.

Thank you all! I will try to anticipate them (quicker!).

If they throw it once, I'll give it back. Second time it's gone.

I agree with this. I think they like to see the cause and effect that they throw it and then they can make you do something (i.e. pick up the cup)

this is the rule in our house too. they get milk in their sippies with meals/snacks (this is the one pick up allowed sippy) but then they have access to water in sippies all day long as well. those just sit on the coffee table in the living room.

I take it away. My DS does this more than DD and its usually when he´s had enough. Anticipation doesnt always work as he´ll suddenly decide he wants more if I go to take it away. I repeat myself constantly to not throw and to put it on the table/give it to mummy when he´s had enough. They´re better when in their highchairs.
