Sippy cups and airplanes?

I vaguely remember someone posting something about sippy cups building up pressure in airplanes. I tried to search for the original post, but I can't find it. Can someone refresh my memory? Do they explode? We use the playtex sippies with the valves in them. We are flying tomorrow and I want to be prepared!!! Thanks, Leighann

I brought sippies on the airplane and they didn't do anything. I think that's because in the cabin they equalize the pressure...I guess I wouldn't recommend putting them into your luggage with liquid in them.

They don't explode but depending on the cup the pressure can send the liquid up the straw. My recommendation is don't fill them and just get water on the plane.

you can't fill them and get through security. You have to go on the plane with them empty them ask the stewardess to fill them for you for security reasons. We fly quite a lot and I've never had a pressure issue with the valves or straws.

I left them empty...got through security and then went to one of the shops and bought a bottle of water (1 bottle is enough to fill 2 sippy cups).
I had no problems. I'm not sure if it helped that one of the flight attendants was a mom of twins...but no one said a word.

We have gone through security with the full and no-one stopped us. They saw it but then pointed to the twins and let us go through. We had milk in one and water in the other.

We used the foogo thermos and the pressure built up in both of them and because I am a little slow on the uptake got covered in milk the first time as did my daughter and water the second time.

Same here. We just declared it at security and told them it was for the babies. We didn't have any problems with the pressure affecting the cups.

No issues here... with exploding or security.

That was probably me that posted that. They didn't explode, but we had a straw type & the pressure did build up in the straw, so that when you flipped the lid open, you got sprayed. They do equalize the pressure in the cabin, but I guess just not enough. Once we realized what was happening, we'd just unscrew the lids every once in awhile to let the pressure out.
