The kids love them for the soft spout -- but when they suck them the whole spout gets stuck so I'm fixing the spout for them like every 2 minutes (annoying). Any other suggestions? I tried a hard spout this morning and Brody literally took it and threw it on the ground...no interest.

The playtex first sipsters have a softer spout (not like the nuby, but not hard plastic either). My girls did really well with those and I liked them because they have handles so the girls can hold them easily, and a valve so they aren't that messy.

Gerber has a soft spout sippy that my two loved and so did I. They were more sturdy than the Nuby and didn't leak. Can't remember the name of them though.

Our first ones were the gerber ones. They Love them! They do no leak, are easy to clean and have a soft spout.

We also use these [as a gift for their birthday]. I like how they can see through it as they're drinking. I like to put milk in it so they can SEE what they're drinking. Though, the only thing I'm not head over heals about these is that you can see their little bite marks on the spout part. Seems like if they really wanted to they could chew right through them - and we've had em' for a month. Also a reason why I don't use em' as our 'main' cups ;) But I do like them.

What do you mean? We've never had that problem....

When they suck milk or juice from the nuby cups the top of it (the soft spout area) gets suctioned in. It almost creates like a vaccuum and you have to squeeze the spout for it to deflate back out. Does that make sense? I don't know how else to explain it.

Makes sense to me since my girls used to do that too. Then they took it a step further and pushed the spout down and in, which makes the liquid pour out. Oh how I hated the nuby cups!!!

I had the same problem and Leighann and Desiree. I hated those Nuby cups, they leaked because my kids loved seeing the liquid pour out and it would get stuck as well. We've had great success with the Gerber insulated cups and also the Munchkin straw sippies (I  them)...minimal leaks and sometimes the liquid can get stuck but that's if they don't suck it all the way out. Good luck!

We love the Playtex Sipsters (hard spout) and used the Avent Magic Cup quite happily during the soft spout days. GL!

I dealt with the Nuby's a little longer but did get them switched to the Gerber Sip and Smile. I think some have soft spouts but they are shaped like the hard ones and that might make a good transition. We still use the gerber ones mostly.

We used the gerber cups also, but they liked the Nuby more. I know what you mean about the spout. My girls also figured out that they could turn the cup upside down and hit it on the highchair to get liquid out and make a nice mess to play in. Now we use the bigger Gerber cups with the harder spout. They don't leak or spill and they can't make a mess!

We also had problems with the Nuby cups since the boys figured out pretty quickly how to push the spout in just like the other posters.
One day I had enough and packed them all away and now they only get the playtex sipsters. Once they realized the other cups weren't coming back they were fine with it. We had some of the clear Gerber cups with the handles, but I sent all those to daycare so I only have to deal with one type of valve at home. (mostly it's so DH doesn't get confused with the cups)

We use the Nuby Sport Sipsters - like a soft straw-like top? I've never had an issue with the spout getting stuck.

You might want to consider the straw cups like Munchkin and others make. I've read articles by doctors and speech therapists that say they're better for oral-motor development than the regular sippy cups. Straw cups are nice too b/c they don't have to tip the cup or their head back, so nice for carseat, stroller, walking around.

I would not recommend Munchkins soft-grip spill proof cups. We have the purple and blue ones with the different color lid thingies. I thought they'd be great but they didn't last long. The spout is super soft and although it's not supposed to leak all you have to do is compress it and it does. The mouth part has these like vents that being plastic in theory are supposed to let fluid through when sucked on, but all they have to do is bend it a bit, or squeeze it and it comes out. They love smacking it on top of their heads to have it run down them. Plus, when I went to try to be thorough in cleaning out the spout, I ripped them. So now they leak indefinitely and with no help at all. HATEFUL things!! I suppose if they were older and constantly tipped over their cups and spilled them, I may take them out in revenge. lol

I hate the Nuby sippy cups, for all the same reasons stated above, the spout gets stuck, they are hard to clean, and when pressed down on a flat surface the liquid just pours right now. I replaced them with hard spout sippies, and we also have the straw sippies which we all love. It's their only choice, they protested for a few days, but eventually forgot about the dreadful Nuby's which are now in the trash, I wouldn't even give them away they are so horrible.

I used the Gerber sip and smile, they have a smaller cup with an angled neck and the lid is a soft spout with handles...the angle lets them not have to tip their head back as far when they are learning. And you can use those tops interchangably with any gerber cups, so I could put the soft spout on the bigger cups for their milk at night. I had the sma eproblem with the Nubys, although I did get a couple munchkin straw cups that I used for the car or the stroller when they couldn't figure out the holding the cup up part. But, the munchkins arent the sturdies and they can wreck that valve super fast!! LOL!

We LOVE these in our house!! I find they don't leak like the Nuby ones and my little ones adapted to them quickly!

We also like Kelan Kanteen Sippy & Nalgene Grip & gulp both are spendy but definite keepers for years to come.
They make a different attachement for the klean kanteen for when they are bigger and not in the sippy stage anymore. As for the Nalgene, think sports and bike riding. :)
