i'd like to start putting their bm/formula in sippies little by little, but i can't seem to get ivana todrink out of hers. she "drinks" it, but lets it run out of her mouth and down her chin. i don't know if she thinks it's a game or what. i give them water in their sippies, and she does that. i tried giving them one of their milk feedings in the sippies and same thing. FWIW, we are using the nuby's. how can i break her of this habit? she gets it all over her shirt (regardless of a bib) and isn't gettng any in her tummy! help!

Oh the sippy cup transition, we just got through it and it was TOUGH!

My babies had no problem drinking water from sippies but forget about formula or anything else. I tried several different kinds of sippys without much luck. Finally when we got to 11.5 months I decided to try whole milk in the sippy instead of formula. For DS that's all it took, he started drinking it right away and I phased out his bottles. DD was another story, for about a week she would take a sip of the milk, and let it run out of her mouth like you said. I finally took a tip from another TS mom and added a little pediasure to the milk (I was getting desperate as she started refusing bottles too). It worked like a charm, it made it sweet enough for her to drink. I started with 1/4 pediasure to 3/4 milk and once she was doing well phased out the pediasure. I also find they do better with water in regular sippy cups and milk in straw sippy cups.

It was a rough few weeks but now they happily drink milk out of sippies all day long and are down to one bottle of formula before bed.

    Good luck!

My girls go back and forth with them, one day they're fine and drink out of them, the next they seem to have forgotten how to drink.

I am totally encouraging lazy babies though, when I get aggravated I hold it for them! BAD MOMMY!

How about trying the Nuby with the straw? Maybe that will help it go down instead of out.

I'd try a different sippy. My boys, personally, hate Nubys. To this day, they look at me like I'm crazy if I try to hand them one (ie at someone else's house). My guys transitioned best with the Gerber Sip N Smiles. They also liked the Playtex My First Sipster. Anything with a hard spout was out until they were over a year...they hated those! I know it sucks to buy multiple brands, but I'd keep trying new ones for a few days until you get one they like. We didn't introduce the straw sippies until they were 13 mos & it took them a LONG time to get it, but I've heard some moms swear by them in the beginning. ETA: My boys prefer the First Years staw sippies (I think)...with Diego/Dora on them. I do have another style of Nuby that they like....it has the valve inside & not at the straw tip. The Nubys with the valves in the straw tip are NOT a hit around here either (I'm not sure why I keep trying Nuby....lol)

I'd also 'ignore' her when she dribbles the water/formula out of her mouth. Aiden used to do that & we'd always react by scolding him, correcting him, or praising him when he didn't! After a while, we completely ignored the situation when he did it (no praise, no scold) & he stopped within a few times. It's just a suggestion...maybe she just likes how it feels spilling down her chin :)!

Good luck...I hated the sippy transition (but not nearly as much as I hate the 1 nap per day transition!).....

We inadvertently taught them how to use the straw sippy cups. From about 6 months on when we were out in restaurants or what not and they were thirsty I would take water from my straw and squirt it in their mouths if I didn't have a bottle or sippy on hand. One day DD started sucking on the straw. So we made it a game that I wouldn't release the strawful of water until she sucked on it. We started doing it with DS too and within a few tries he got it too. I didn't think much of it until in a moment of desperation we tried the straw sippy cup and voila they caught on and drank the milk right away. They are a pain to clean though versus a regular sippy b/c they have more parts.

And don't remind me about the 1 nap a day transition I fear ours is coming VERY soon!

LOL, I think I was the mom who suggested adding the Pediasure....it worked like a charm to increase Aiden's intake. Can't believe I forgot to add that thought here! WHOOPS!

Yup you were the one! And it's a great tip, the only way I could get Livi to even touch whole milk and now she loves it.

    Thanks bunches!!

Love to hear these responses. On dd drinks great from the sippy and the other just lets it run down her chin. She is okay if I let her take a sip and take it away but if let her just hold it, it rolls out.
