We are almost 7 months old here and I have some sippie cup questions...
When exactly will they get the hang of this. They will grab onto them, bring them to their mouths, but just chew on the sippie part...stuff does come out but they wont suck on it?
I also probably dont try often enough...usually only once a day.

My boys didn't get it until about 10/11 months. I started letting them have one every now and then and they too just mouthed the tip. They will get it in a few months, but keep letting them play with it, that's how they learn.

Just around 12 months here. It took all three of my kids a long time to figure out how to tip it enough!

I think it depends on the baby and the sippy cup. We've tried a few different ones and they seem to like the ones with silicone spouts the best because they are most like their bottles. Munchkin and Nube both make them. Ronan has got the hang of it, now, and William's getting there but he hasn't figured out that he can actually swallow the contents. Right now he just sucks it into his mouth and then spits it out.

our boys had it down by 7 months....i started working with them when they turned about 6 months! i was having some trouble but was consistent with it, i think that was the key & finding the right one. a friend suggested the take n toss with snap on handles and they had no trouble after that! I purchased them from Target but Wal-Mart has them as well!

I was just thinking when should we start them trying sippy cups :)

I am wondering do you put formula/EBM in them? Or juice or water? I had read somewhere to help transition them to cows milk at the one year mark to give that to them in a sippy cup - or something along those lines.

Any other tips or insight would be great - its always so much fun to try new stuff!

We did just water and then when we switched to milk at a year, put the milk in there and not in bottles. There is no "right" way to do. I'm still holding off on juice. I'd just rather have them eat fruit and they still like water just fine.

I started sippies about a month ago. For a few weeks they would just chew on them. For example: http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h241/Hal...ies8mos2wks.flv

And then all of a sudden, Alyssa starts chugging her water! haha! I keep an eye out for her water intake now  Anyway, she is wonderful at it. Rose on the other hand.. she'll drink from it, but then she also plays with it [fills her mouth up and spits it out like a fountain <_< ].

Since introducing sippies, I let them play with them [or I give them a sip of water] after eating solids and a little during snack time [about three times a day]. It took them about 3 weeks to get it down.

Same here. I started them on their sippy cups at 7 months using water. DS took a couple of weeks to master it but DD took much longer.

I started the sippies at 6 months. I go the nuby with the silicon spouts and variable flows, which are really great! They took to sucking on them right away, but I had to hold it first. They would grab and pull them to their mouth, but not tip. Now, they will tip it up level, usually, and I keep it full enough, most of the time, so they can get a drink out of there themselves, but they haven't gotten it yet that they have to tip it up a lot more to get a lower level liquid out. They do play and bang them around a lot or just chew on them, still, too. I usually put water in them, but we get free baby juice from WIC, and even though they said to give them 1/2 a bottle a day, they only get it every once in a while, maybe once a week, and then I water it down. Otherwise they get water. I might start putting their formula in it though...here in a couple months.

I started mine at 5 months because William was showing a great interest in drinking out of cups. I gave him a few sips out of a glass from time to time and he did really well with it so I decided it was time for sippy cups. Ronan wasn't that interested in the beginning but after a few weeks Ronan was the first to master using a sippy cup. William is getting pretty good at it, too, but often spits out what he sucks into his mouth.

The boys really like the ones with silicone spouts best, like the Nube or Munchkin.

I started out with water but now put any formula left over from feedings, then take the sippies away after about 20 minutes. If we're going out and about I'll put water in them and let them sip on them throughout the journey. They don't drink much from them, but it keeps them happy.
