For those of you who's babies have used sippies with straws. Which ones would you say were best? or which did your babies like best rather ;)

I want to get a separete sippy for the girls when they begin the transition from formula to milk and put the milk in the new straw sippy.

Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated ^_^

    TIA

my parenting class teacher recommended straw cups only. once they master them, they can master straws--and drink anywhere, any time! (because a cup and a straw are much easier to come by than a sippy cup). so far, it's been good for us. one of mine has mastered them and the other is still working on not spitting out that last sip. it's taken us a while but i think we're much better off being able to use straws.

Don't put milk in straw cups!! They're really harder to keep clean since you really can't get into the straw part.

However, we love the munchkin straw cups (and you can buy replacement straws too). The playtex ones leak.

My girls drink out of the Gerber basic cups with straws. They really prefer to drink from real straws though.

When we eat out somewhere I get them their own drinks (ice water) and they hold it themselves and everything, with a little help from me so they don't pour it on themselves.

I gave them mostly regular non-straw sippies though and that didn't hinder their ability to start drinking from real straws. They want to drink from what they see adults drinking from. We are now in the process of ditching the straw completely and just drinking out of regular cups.

I got the idea from the girls showing interest in drinking through straws. DH loves his caprisun and sometimes gives the girls a little sip. They are pretty good with the straw.. surprisingly. So I thought they'd have fun [learning or getting used to milk] if the milk was in a straw cup. I hadn't thought about how difficult the cleaning part would be. Might have to consider getting additional straws and powerwash them in the dishwasher ;)

I really like the Munchkin straw cups. We have a few to rotate around and will take the straw part apart and allow the top and the straw to soak to be clean as we can make it. You can also order replacement parts from the Munchkin website. Good luck on your decision!

I love the Playtex straw cups, and have been using them exclusively for, oh, five years now. :)

They aren't leak-proof -- I didn't let my kids walk around with them until they knew not to tip them over. Until then, they sat in high chairs and used them.

I use the regular ones for milk, and the insulated ones for water or juice. The straws are interchangeable, and I've had to order straws (which are in two parts) a couple times now from the website -- they get chewed up and tend to crack. (But again, five years, three kids.)

No issues with cleaning -- I stick everything in the dishwasher, and it's fine. But, I never take milk cups with me anywhere, so they either get put back in the fridge, or get rinsed and put in the dishwasher immediately. So, I've never tried to clean congealed milk out of a straw.

    Anyone try these out? http://www.gatortots.com/item_457/Nuby-BPA...-with-Straw.htm

We have some that are very similar. It's true what others said about getting milk out of the straw part. Maybe someone has some good tips for how to clean them.

we use these and also the take and toss straw cups. although, i have learned not to put cold liquids in them or put them in the refrigerator. when i do those two things, the liquid comes out the straw and makes a mess.

The Nuby cups are HORRIBLE!! I NEVER once used any of them that didn't leak. They leaked every single freakin' time! Okay, sorry ;) .

The Munchkin straw cups are almost leak proof. I bought a pack of Dr Brown's cleaner brush things (no idea what they're called but they're made to clean the little tube in the Dr Brown's bottles). If I keep ontop of the straws, washing them after each use, it's no big deal. If I find one that was missed over a day or so, I soak the straw in soapy water then clean it out with the brush and throw it in the dishwasher with the others.

We have 3 or 4 different brands of straw sippies. I like the Munchkin ones the best. They don't leak often and seem to hold up well to abuse. I also like that you can flip the cap and the straw is protected from gunk in transit. It's a PITA if you ever take the whole straw out for cleaning or replacement and try to get it back in the top part. I am sure there is a secret, but we haven't figured it out yet. There is really only one set I don't like - I don't remember the brand, but they have a built in valve which was actually helpful when they first started learning to drink from staws because you could basically prime the straw so that as soon as they sucked they got something thus they knew to keep sucking, but they often create their own puddles without any help from the boys which is a pain.

They are all a pain to clean. We use the Dr. Browns cleaners left over from our bottles and try to be diligent about always rinsing the cups out after we use them.
