Sinus trouble...is this normal?

I am having a bloody nose at least once a day, either when I'm standing in the shower and blood just starts pouring out of my right nostril or when I blow my nose and I will have large blood clots followed by a bloody nose. I've had sinus trouble and the occasional bloody nose my entire pregnancy, but this has turned into a daily occurrence the past few weeks. Is this normal? Something I should ask my doctor about? It seems so insignificant with everything else that is going on...I appreciate any thoughts.

    Was totally normal for me!
I too got a ton of bloody noses & was SUPER congested for most of my pregnancy. When I asked my Dr. about it she said that it was very normal due to the mucous membranes being thinned out during pregnancy.
To help with the nose I used saline spray :good:

Thanks for the reply, this is as I expected. My husband is going to quit letting me wear his polo shirts if I ruin another one with a bloody nose!

I had never had a bloody nose (checked with my parents even!) until getting pregnant with twins. Now I expect them at least two days a week.... and every day when there is a storm blowing through. I normally don't have any sinus problems, but I'm a better barometric gauge these days than my neighbors' weather station!

But my peri did want to know 1. that I was having them and 2. how often and for how long. It can give them a glimpse into how you are clotting, how you are doing making new blood, and other blood related things without having to do blood work, so make sure your doc is informed. Just expect them not to WORRY about it, unless they have you on blood thinners or blood pressure medication/modification.

Good luck.... I'm so tired of the "bloody boogies" as my little brother calls them!

Oooh, me too. I actually need sinus surgery, but as soon as they figured that out....."Oh. You're pregnant!"

The lifesaver for me has been a neti pot! Just Google it, and you'll find where you can get them, or you can get them at holistic/health food shops. They usually come with sachets of the stuff you add to the water so you know you're getting the right mix of saline. They can take a few tries to get used to, but I figured it out after watching a video of Dr. Oz demonstrating one on Oprah.com. I don't know if this is ok, adding a link, but mods, if not, just let me know and I won't do it again.
Here's a really good YouTube demo on using one. It's important to make sure the water is the right temperature, as that is the *only* reason it's ever uncomfortable. (It's why it hurts when you snort hot bathwater up yhour nose.) If the water is close to body temp, it's actually quite pleasant. Let me know how you get on if you try one!

I don't know about bloody noses, but my snot is normally all bloody. I have never asked my dr about it though. I am hoping it will go away once I have the babies.

Normal for me too! I have been waking up with bloody noses for about 2 weeks, and when I blow my nose, there is always blood. Sucks!!!

Happens to me all the time too! But then, I was expecting it because I had the same thing with my DD. It was so funny, I was congested the entire pregnancy and it didn't go away until the day my daughter was born. Several hours after she was born I remember thinking something is different here... well look at that.. I can finally breathe easily through my nose again.

I have also had problems with a bloody nose! I was taking sinus medication due to seasonal allergies and I stopped it because it dries you out so much that the bloody nose issues increased and I went into PTL twice. Both times, the nurses at the hospital told me I was severely dehydrated. I thought I was drinking plenty of water, but the allergy pill was pushing it too far.

I still occasionally get a bloody nose when I need to blow, but it has slowed down a lot. I have more congestion now more than anything else!

    Good luck!
