I have become completely congested and am not sure if there is anything I can take to help. I cannot sleep beause I cannot breathe. I am one grumpy gus today. Do I have a cold or is this normal? Should I wait and ask the doc on thursday? Any advice is appreciated.

I have the exact same problem! And I've heard it's normal. It affects my sleep (and my husbands due to me wheezing) more than anything else. I asked my OB and she really didn't recommend any meds. Just suggested using extra pillows to raise your head, use breathe right strips, etc. I have found that elevating my head has definitely helped. I only really have the problem at night.

I went to my reg doctor about 10 weeks ago because I was having this "swooshing" sound in my ear. I guess because my sinus passages are so clogged up (due to the pregnancy), it's not allowing fluid to drain from my right ear, which results in this sound I've been experiencing. She put me on nasonex (which did nothing) and saline spray (which also did nothing) I can breath out of my nose just fine and have learned to live with the swooshing. It effects my hearing a bit, but I'm hoping it will end when the pregnancy does. Sorry, I don't have any words of advice (and this post just became a bit of a vent for me:), but you're not alone and it is definitley normal to be more congested when pregnant. Maybe your dr can suggest something on Thursday. Good luck!

If your only symptom is sinus congestion then I think that's just pregnancy related congestion. I was really surprised to learn congestion is a normal part of pregnancy. I started having problems around 10 weeks or so and it continues to this day. I now snore. My OB said I can take Regular Sudafed (the stuff behind the counter not what's on the shelves). You could also try a humidifier or one of those medicated plug ins at night.

    Hope you feel better.

I have had sinus issues for years- and this pregnancy has really made it worse. I actually am currently getting allergy injections weekly- to help with those issues that aren't helping either. My docs currently have me on rhinocort, claritin and singular- and I still have bad days. The rhinocort has helped the most. Actually seen an ENT for this and he says best treatment is oral steroids, but we can't do that, so next best was the rhinocort. He promised me it would be better when the babies come!

If it does turn into a sinus infection, you can go on antibiotics. I had one at about 10 or 11 weeks and I was in agony. I didn't want to take anything, but it was so bad that I had to and it cleared up pretty quickly. You would definitely know the difference between pregnancy congestion and a real infection.
