I am trying to figure out if my 3 yr old dd is done with naps, or acting out using naps as the weapon. She went about 5 days without a nap (after trying to put her down for about an hour I gave up, we usually have always laid down together taking naps as same time-I'm a SAHM) but on the 5th day it was totally obvious she needed more sleep. She goes to bed at about 7, usually takes 1/2 hour to fall asleep, then wakes at 6:00. So she crashed on the 6th day and I got a nap, WOO HOO! Today we are back to square one.....
When did you know for sure?

We are doing some remodeling of her room so her crib is in our room as are our boys (yes it's crowded but I'm nursing through the night at the moment and its easier if they are with me). she hasnt started climbing out of her crib yet and she is getting her "big girl bed" for Christmas this year so the crib still works for her. Would it be cruel to make her bring activities to do in the crib for an hour in my room while the boys and I sleep? We would all be in the same room with the door shut and locked... Any tips on this???? Thanks so much!

My older 3 all quit taking naps right at age 2. They probably would still take a nap, but would be up until 10....I can't deal with that! Sounds like she is ready.

As for your 2nd question...would she really let you sleep? I don't think there is anything wrong with making her have some quiet time during the day, especially if she will not be taking naps anymore.

My oldest DD stopped taking a nap around 3.5 years of age. After she was done with naps, I did make her have quiet time for at least an hour every day.

My almost 3 year olds are trying to give up their naps. I put them in their beds everyday with a stack of books for quiet time. They have to stay in there for one hour. Sometimes they fall asleep and sometimes they don't. I put them to bed earlier at night on the days that they don't nap. We just switched to beds about a month ago. HTH :)

My DD1 is also 3 and transitioning out of naps. I do make her have "quiet time" with books on her bed, although that often only lasts up to half an hour. Then I usually have her stay in her room and play quietly with puzzles or something for a little while longer. I'd say she takes naps maybe twice a week. And the only way to make it happen more is to have a really late bed time, which we of course don't want. I think you could try having her stay in her crib for quiet time, but it may take several days for her to catch on to the idea (and actually be somewhat quiet).

My (almost) 3 year olds are still napping. It usually goes by when they wake up in the morning. If they sleep until 9 AM they don't nap, but if they wake between 6-7 AM they will nap around noon.

My oldest son stopped napping at 15 months :cray: and my daughter is nearly 3 and doesn't want to nap anymore. My boys seem to be taking after their oldest brother and are phasing out their naps. :cray: I think it would be fine to let her have some quiet time while you guys nap. :)

My oldest is 3 (since May) and still naps, however, 3 days a week she's in school so she won't and the other days I put her down and 80% of the cases she falls asleep. She sleeps 7 to 7 overnight.

Weissbluth told me that between 3 and 4 the afternoon nap will slowly dissapear for the majority of children.

I am jealous of all mom's with napping 3 year olds! My oldest stopped napping about 2 1/2 I guess. He will sometimes still crash and nap but then he is up till 10pm (or later). So on Avg he will sleep 8:30pm-8am. I tried to "quiet time" with him but he only has one volume...loud.

I would say to try it and see how it goes. Good luck ;)
