Since having twins what have you "slacked off" on?

I thought this would be a nice thread b/c it would show all of us that we're not alone in the things we've slacked off on or let go of since having our babies!

    My top ones are:

    1. Putting away laundry - it sits folded in the laundry baskets all over the house!

    2. Paying bills - it seems like they are always a day or two late due to my memory loss!

    3. Returning phone calls - if you're not my mom, my MIL, or my best friend - I'm horrible at calling you back!

    4. My general appearance - yoga type pants and long sleeve t-shirts are my wardrobe! We went out to lunch yesterday and my MIL and FIL babysat for us and I came downstairs and my MIL says "Wow, it has been a LONG time since I've seen you in jeans!" I said you're not kidding!

    5. Cleaning out my van - I was always bad at this but it has gotten MUCH worse since the babies came along. It is all I can do to get my 4-year-old, my 9.5 month olds, my diaper bag and any groceries into the house -forget about cleaning out the empty McD's cups, granola bar wrappers, etc.

That is definitely not all of them - but these are at the top of my "I've really dropped the ball" list!

Anyone else want to share? :)

I think about this a lot...I have the same as you--especially laundry and my appearance. I do start working part time again next week, so I think that will help my appearance issue.

I have to also had cooking to the list...I used to cook everyday and try so many things, but I'm sticking to the most basic and fast meals now...

 this post couldnt of came at a better time. Thanks for helping me feel better.
Everything you listed is me too. I am so horrible about returning phone calls my friends constantly complain.
Laundry is in baskets and my truck is dirty.
I have also let my horses down. I knew i wouldn't have time for them for a while but it still bothers me.

Erm to be honest, with two dogs and two cats my house was never clean, so it hasn't made much of a difference. We actually do laundry and dishes more often, because we have to. For the rest, it's when we feel like it.

    Pretty much everything.

Actually, my laundry does usually get put away quickly, but it often doesn't get folded (especially the kids' clothing - it just gets stuffed in their drawers).

I just went back to work full time last spring, and it's actually helped me get some other areas of my life in order . . . like I've actually started going to the gym regularly again (granted, it's at 6 AM, but at least I do it).

But yeah, those bills . . . I have discovered that many things now let you set up automatic payment - even my credit cards now get paid directly from my bank account when they are due (in the past few months I think I had late fees on every credit card I have . . . and they are NOT cheap).

So, I guess this is encouragement that at least some things do improve with time . . .

    Good luck!

    Rachel

House cleaning is a big one for me. I used to be SO very OCD, but I've finally learned to let go.

Laundry is just the opposite. I used to slack so bad with laundry, but now I do it on a regular basis AND actually put it away.

And like many of you...returning phone calls. Same as PP...if your not my mom, my sister, or DH...I probably won't call you back. I usually catch up with my friends on my cell phone on my way home from work (using hands free of course).

1.) Fixing my hair and wearing makeup. I can count on one hand the number of times I've worn makeup this past year. It has been getting better lately, but it's taken a year. And I always wear my hair in a pony tail now. It's just easier and doesn't get in the way when I'm slinging baby food and poop. LOL.

2.) Keeping the house clean. To be honest, when the girls are napping I eat whatever meal it's time for in peace and quiet and enjoy a little time on this website. I'm tired from taking care of them and working out. Cleaning the house is just not a priority.

3.) Cooking dinner. I make stuff for the girls to eat and that's all I can manage in a day.

I love this post...it makes me feel so much better! The laundry thing is the worst for me...I wash and usually even fold it, but I can never find time to put it away...so it gets worn again straight out of the basket and the cycle continues! My dog is a little neglected, too...he was our first baby, but now I barely have time to walk him...I'm too scared to try to take an 80 lb lab when I go out with the babies alone  but I guess I'll have to figure it out eventually!

all of the above plus yard work. we have lots of trees in our neighborhood and it's starting to look like this house is abandoned because the leaves and pine needles are piling up so high. i went out yesterday to sweep off the front walk and front parking pad and couldn't believe how much work it was. i'm sure our neighbors don't appreciate the neglect. we're talking about hiring a lawn service just to get this place looking lived-in again.

    1. Cleaning out my car
    2. Balancing my checkbook-- I have all the statements since 4/07 (the month after the girls were born) in an envelop waiting for the day I decide to balance that darn thing)
    3. Reading for fun (books that aren't made of cardboard!)
    4. Talking to friends on the phone

I have slacked off on just about everything I can think of. Gradually as they get older I am starting to take back the things that I either gave up or things that I have partially put aside.

    My top 4 are:

    Making dinner
    Daily shower
    Playing with my dogs
    Exercise

This is a great thread! I have slacked on:
    1. My personal appearance. Most days I look like I just rolled out of bed.
    2. Playing with the cats. I feel bad but there is no time.
    3. Housework. I can't even think about it or my head will explode.
    4. The checkbook. Ugh, it makes my brain hurt. I ask DH to do it but he waits until the last minute to do everything. Then the bills are late.
    5. Keeping in touch with people. Unless you are my Mom, then you hear from me twenty times a day.

By the time I have more time, I'll look a like zombie living in a messy cardboard box with angry cats and my Mom as my only friend :D

I forgot about yard work. My yard looks something awful. I was always the one to take care of it. I was out back the other day...and there are weeds taller than me!!!!! Ohwell...I guess they're not going anywhere LOL.

ummm...everything! DH is very understanding about the house - but the mess in the van drives him bonkers. Luckily, he isn't in it much! by now pretty much everyone knows if they haven't heard from me in 24 hours their message probably won't get returned and they should just keep calling back until they get me!!

    My biggies are

    1) Putting laundry away, it gets washed, dried and even makes it into the basket folded sometimes, but I just can't seem to get it into the closet or our drawers. I end up just dressing the boys from whatever is on top of their basket.

    2) Cooking!! I feel like we are lucky if we even eat dinner. The pizza place in town even knows to come to the back door and knock instead of ringing the bell at the front door. Pizza Rolls and soup are easily microwaved so we eat a lot of those too.

    3) Wearing makeup, shaving my legs and doing my hair. I have to shower every day for work, but I never seem to have the time to dry my hair or anything like that. At least going back to work forced me to get out of my pajamas.

    4) Cleaning. Period.

For the first 6 months of my babies' lives, I had juast about ALL of the above on my list.

    Now, I'm down to...
    1. Working out
    2. Sex
    3. Remembering to do things for family/friends' birthdays - I've been late with every card, present, etc. this entire year!!!
    4. Answering the phone...even when it is my Mom, DH, or best friend, I can never get to it in time, so I don't even stress. It ALWAYS goes to voicemail!! Everyone hates that.... Oh well! I refuse to "rip" my babies "off" during a feeding to run to a ring...

Yes, certain things do get better with time. I was afraid that when I read this post, most of the replies would be those who had babies that were 2 or 3 months old. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has 9-monthers and still feels like I'm not accomplishing all I would like to in my life.

Oh wow! My girls are 3 1/2 now and I'm still not back to doing what I use to do :D

Paying bills is a good one - I used to have everything done up tidy, but not anymore - they fall by the wayside
    Sex
    Sleep
    Weight (too much  )
Housecleaning (my DH finally hired a housekeeper that comes 2x a month)
    Cooking
Oh, and I hate the phone! I finally checked my messages last week and there were 21 new messages

    Yikes - what do I do?? :D

Let me see.. yeah, that would be pretty much everything :)
I still manage to swipe on some makeup if we're going out. Thats probably one thing that hasn't changed.
Laundry I somehow manage to do even if its 11 at night. Clean clothes are a necessity.
Any other housework though. Yeah, good luck. I try and do what I can, but everything is a huge effort and there is just no time.
Friends have pretty much gone out the window, which is sad. The ones with kids get it, but the ones without really have no idea just how little time I have left in the day. Too bad, but oh well. My babies are more important.

i love this thread! makes me feel less....pathetic lol

    1. my appearance. i wear the same pair of sweatpants EVERY DAY. (i wash them every 2 days..im not THAT dirty). and my hair is always up..i really need to buy some new sweatpants
    2. i never cook dinner. cooking dinner is putting a frozen pizza in the oven HA
    3. exercising..still have 20lbs to lose and its not coming off by pacing the halls with babies.

My DH does all the cooking - and always has - but if I was the one who did the cooking, I'm pretty sure we'd be eating bowls of cereal and PB&J sandwiches every night of the week at this point!

I've noticed that while it is much easier at 9 months than it was at 2 months - it is still really, really hard to get anything done besides the bare essentials (meals, showers, taking care of all 3 kids, and getting the laundry washed and folded -but not put away!). Plain and simple - moms of twins (and more) are just very busy, busy mommas! :)

But, wow, our life sure is fuller now. And these 2 little boys have brought so much love and happiness to my DH and I, our DS and all the grandparents!

My house used to be perfectly clean and now it's a mess.
I used to do my hair everyday, now it's in a ponytail. (I wore it down the other day you should have heard the comments!)
Bills...they were paid as soon as they came in, now I wait until the last moment so they wont be late.
Cooking...I never cook anymore. Poor DH.
Oh well I have a lot more fun now!

As I sit in my messy house with bottles and burpcloths littering the floor, this thread has put a BIG smile on my face! I just don't have the energy to pick up anymore. I so want to organize my closet but WHEN?! Our minivan is chock full of blankets, toys, and other crap. I want to clean it out but WHEN? I wear the same jeans/sweatpants and recycle the same 3-4 tops I feel good in (laundered of course!) every week...I want to go out and buy new things but WHEN??!

I feel so much better about my days now. I thought I was the only one who just couldn't get it together.

    1. laundry-it is so easy to wash and dry it but I have decided that the empty cabinets, drawers and closets look much nicer. My laundry room is piled to the ceiling.
    2. sex- by the time I get everyone to sleep for the night I am exhausted.
    3. mopping-we have hardwood/tile throughout the house and I never seem to get it mopped. I sweep while everyone is napping but by the time I get ready to mop someone needs me.
    4. appearance-my legs are unshaven, I cut all my hair to just below thechin for an easy from the shower look, I don't even know where my makeup bag is.
    5. yard work-Ihave small trees growing everywhere and I didn't think weeds were supposed to get that tall.

It sounds like alot of you are doing much better than I am when it comes to laundry! I wash and dry it but it usually sits in the baskets for days unfolded and gets all wrinkly. My kids are learning to live with it for the time being. Every once in a while I get it all folded and I'm just so proud of myself but then there's 2 more weeks of wrinkly clothes to come!

Other things I'm not so ashamed to admit (ok, a little) now that I've read all your posts:

-I usually don't get around to cleaning the bathrooms for at least 2 weeks at a time
-My floors usually don't get vacuumed/mopped unless I know someone is coming over
    -Sex
    -Sleep
    -Exercise
    -My van looks awful!!!!!
    -My bedroom looks worse!!!!!!!!!
-I'm not very good at doing my oldest DD's hair anymore. Not that I ever was a very good "hair-doer" anyway but she's lucky if I put it in a ponytail for her before she heads to school EARLY in the morning. Usually it's a headband and alot of days nothing at all besides combing it out. It's a good thing she's so cute!!
-Dusting (I can't even remember the last time I did a full dusting)
    -Making my bed

This does get better, eventually, maybe...........right??!! ;)
