Does any one know the chances of having twins a second time? Both me and my sister became pregnant while on birth control and my uncle was a twin which we believe is where my twins came into play. But does any one know the chances of having a second set? We are going to try for our third and final child after the first of the year and I am curious. I run an at home day care and do have a parent who has two sets of twins, both naturally and so of course that makes me wonder how likely that is, Especially since I seem to be very fertal.

Thanks, sorry if its a silly question.

I've heard with natural fraternal twins the chance of conceiving a second set is 1 in 5. You do have twice the chance of conceiving twins the first month off of birth control, so your having twins may have been indcued by missing a pill and having a spike in fertility. My girls were probably birth control twins since we got pregnant within the first few weeks off the pill.

I have heard a 1 in 4 chance of another set of fraternal twins. Once a mom is a double egg dropper, the chances of her being a double egg dropper again are high!

Identical twins, the odds of a 2nd set are astronomical - the first set would occur in 1 in every 250 births, but to have 2 sets of id twins is a 1 in a million (not actual numbers, just my way of saying not very likely at all!)

2 sets of ID twins are 1 in 62,500 - 1 in 250 for the first set and then 1 in 250 for the second set (since the odds don't change) 250 times 250 is 62,500

If you were on birth control and have fraternal twins, the pill could be the cause! According to my OB nurse, if you are even 2 hours late in taking a tri-cycle pill (where the dose changes every week), you are likely to ovulate. And because of the hormone rush when your body thinks it is going off the pill, you can hyper-ovulate and end up with twins.

That's probably how I got mine since there is no history of twins in my family and I am only in my twenties. I had to laugh when she told me this. It would have been nice if someone had told me that before I got pregnant! But, obviously God had other, more wonderful plans for us!
