I heard such rave reviews on here about the Signing Time DVDs that I ordered Volume 1 & 2 off amazon the other day. They finally came & I was soooo excited that I may have found the clue to not only teach more signs, but POSSIBLY, just possibly, find something that would mesmorize my boys for longer than 45 seconds ;).

I was told they were full of songs & totally enthralling to kids, but Volume 1 only has the opening song & the closing song. The boys will sit for the first few minutes, but there is sooo much time in between learning signs that they get bored & walk away. They will stop to look & listen when the songs are on, but there just aren't enough to keep them entertained. I'm sooo bummed. I haven't tried Volume 2 yet, but I'm hoping it's better.

Did I just get a bad DVD or are all of them like the 1st one? If there is a specific one that your kids REALLY like, can you let me know? I do think the boys would sit & watch them longer if they were more fast paced & song filled. I'd buy a specific one if I knew.

    Any input for me???

(Side note: I had to laugh at the 'first signs' they teach in the 1st one....I'd have thought teaching please, thank you, etc would be more important than BIRD!)

ok, mine have BABY signing time vol. 1 and 2. i want to splurge and get 3 & 4 right after christmas (i have all their gifts already, we've spent enough).

they absolutely love them both, but they like vol. 2 more than vol. 1.

baby signing time teaches signs exclusively in songs. i have never seen a regular signing time. i'm sorry you got a dud!

You might try 'Baby Signing Time' versus 'Signing Time'? We started with regular ST at about a year. The thing at that age is thy are more mesmerized by the repetition than they are by the thrill of something new...so don't give up on it just yet. Watch with them the first few times, make the signs yourself, help them make the signs.

These were a big hit from 1-2 years old, and a perfect 30-minute distraction for me to throw dinner on the table. Now my boys prefer Tom & Jerry and have the attention span for a few, select Disney/Pixar movies. We owned Baby Signing Time Vol. 2, Signing Time Vols. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and Signing Time Series Two Vols. 1-8.

My boys (2.5) still recognize all the signs and CAN do them, but now that their language has exploded, they don't lean on them for communication as they once did. They use a few favorite signs (more, eat, milk, sleep, don't like, Dad, boy, kitty, etc.) for emphasis. I couldn't guess how many signs they actually did, maybe 100-150? They started signing at about 14m, but they recognized the signs when we did them (eat, sleep, milk, etc.) after only a few episodes.

I was very pleased with the product.

Yeah, the first one of the regular series is kind of a bummer because of the lack of songs. Volumes 2 and 3 are much better, and then they get even better after that....we have through Volume 9, I think.

My little ones are still mesmerized by the first one, even without songs, because I think they like the repetition. They didn't really get into it until 12 months or so, because they just don't seem to like TV as much as their big sister -- she was glued to Baby Einstein from 3 months, and we started Signing Time with her at 8 months, and she loved it.

I didn't know there was a Baby Signing Time until I heard about it from Sandra....we haven't tried them. I probably won't, because my two are watching the regular ones happily....but I do love all the songs, so I may have to get them just for that!

Yes, the first one doesn't have many songs, but the boys still picked up a TON even if they didn't just sit still and watch. I was AMAZED how in day to day life, they'd just start using some of the signs without really "watching" the videos.

We have "Baby Signing Time" not just Signing time. My kids love to watch them. Even my three 1/2 year old will watch them with his siblings in enthralled.

I guess I'm the odd one out here... my girls are fascinated by the regular Signing Times Volumes 1 and 2. They sit there without moving for the entire 30 minutes. I just bought Volumes 3 and 10 (I liked that topic better than 4) and they're fascinated by those too, but the words are less relevant for a toddler. They just don't really need to know imagination and flossing teeth quite yet.

I chose to get the regular Signing Times because I had heard that the Baby ones are only geared towards kids under 2. I didn't realize those ones have more songs.

For what it's worth, the higher volumes seem to have more songs.

Yeah, Vol 1 is kind of boring compared to the others, but mine still liked it. It was the first one they made and the feel is much different than the others. Mine STILL watch Signing Time!

We watched Vol 2 last night & it was MUCH better in keeping their attention. It moved faster & I believe it had 2-3 songs. That darn opening song sure is catchy because DH & I BOTH caught ourselves singing it around the house last night ;)! I just ordered the BABY Signing Time Vols 1 & 2 yesterday so I'll watch that & compare. I don't plan to teach a LOT of signs, just the basics to keep us from tantrums until their vocab picks up. For example, they SAY ball, cat, dog, etc so I don't feel they need to learn the signs, but I guess those are at least better than train or airplane (which I think are based for older kids...mine don't even know what those ARE yet). I just wish I could pick the signs I wanted taught & have them all into 1 volume jam packed with cute little kids & catchy songs! We'll see how these new DVDs compare, but at least Vol 2 of the original isn't so bad (we tried Vol 1 again with little success). Thanks for the tip on BABY Signing Time!!!!

We have the Baby Einstein 'My First Signs' dvd and they are absolutely enthralled by it. It has the puppets and music like all the other Baby Einsteins but lots and lots of signing in it too. When they get to a sign they know they do the sign and when they get to a sign they dont' know they just move their hands and pretend like they are signing, it's soo darn cute to watch. And DD is starting to pick up signs just from the video that we haven't worked on yet.

uh oh, you're gonna get dog, cat, bird, horse, and even frog--and boat, train, plane, car and bike in what you just ordered LOL

what signs do you WANT them to learn?

we also have the baby einstein my first signs--we actually had that for 6 full months before baby signing time, and they DO love it!!

    good luck!
