Okay... I was trying to think of something the boys could do at my grandparents (rather than getting into pill bottles, pulling china off the shelves, and going through the cat liter). Is sidewalk chalk safe for this age (21 months)? I think it might help keep them confined to one area on the back patio while I visit with the grandparents. What if they put it in their mouths...is it toxic?

The kind we have says "non toxic and washable" but we haven't used it yet....! We're hoping the same thing!

The sidewalk chalk that my kids have says non-toxic and washable as well. My bell has been known to take a few bites of it and she has been fine. Of course, she'll lick rocks if the mood strikes!

OUrs is cheapo and I never checked the package (which I have thrown away) for toxic or not. I guess I just assumed everything of that sort was non-toxic these days. They have both licked a few here and there and everyone seems fine.

I'm pretty sure it's not toxic. We started using it at about 15 months, though it's a pain because the chalk gets everywhere. Also, it can break into pieces pretty easily, so you have to make sure they don't eat it.

I think all sidewalk chalk is non-toxic. My boys love it and I think your 21 month olds will too. And believe me, my little guys have put it their mouth many times and have never gotten sick, so it must be safe.

I have always thought it was safe! It's essentially colored dust. It's a beautiful thing!! It washes off and doesn't stain! I think it's a good idea!!

We love our chalk. They mostly love to throw it because it shatters into pieces. LOL It's great, cheap entertainment.

    Mine too!

We use sidewalk chalk and have been for a little while, so I think you are fine.

Yep, it's safe! It does wash off easily, of them and whatever they were drawing on. They draw on the outside of the house and a hosing off or even just the rain washes it away. They have licked it before because it also doubles as ice cream, they play ice cream stand with their playhouse.

Ummmm...yes, I know for certain that it is "non-toxic" b/c I had to call poison control b/c one of my daughters ate 3 whole pieces of it!!!!!!!!!!!! I kid you not!!!!!! Even though it said "non-toxic" on the side of the box I still called poison control...well, what they said is that it is made of calcium and water, so totally non-toxic....BUT that we should expect her to poop it out...and she surely did! specks of pink and purple in her poop for the rest of the day!!!!!!

Definitely non-toxic. Give it a try...I bet they would love it! Try bubbles, too. They were a huge hit with my boys at that age. :)
