Any comments on what I should NOT let my kiddos draw on with sidewalk chalk? In my perfect little world, I think of it as SIDEWALK chalk, but of course, DD has taken to drawing on the wooden gate ("Mommy! I make the gate PINK!"). I am going to just let it go, but I want to make sure that I don't kick myself down the road when I realize I should not have let her draw on X, Y or Z.

Anything that your kiddos have ruined with sidewalk chalk???

My girls have drawn on our wooden playset (cedar) and its fine after rain or hosing it down. I let them drawn on our concrete patio too, but not our new trex deck. I don't know if it would ruin it, but DH spent a lot of time on that deck and would be upset if it was forever pink or purple or striped, etc etc.

Nope. It all washes off in the rain and the occasional hosing down. Wood, grill covers, side of the shed, it's all good.

My rule is they can use it on anything that doesn't have a roof over it (i.e. not in the house). :)

My kids drew on the brick wall of our house, and it washed off eventually. (I didn't do anything to help it along -- and it doesn't rain very much here.)

On a side note, however -- make sure your kids know the different between chalk and crayons. We had a big blue "R" (don't ask me why they picked "R") on the concrete front stoop of our house for a loooong time before it finally faded.
