Hi all! I'm new here and expecting my twins in January. My husband and I are looking at strollers and are leaning toward the side-by-side ones. My question is--can they be used with infants or are they for older babies only?

    Thanks for your help!

You can use them for infants but the babies can't be in their car seats. If you want to get a side by side for later, you could always get a double snap n go. Personally, I hated my SBS. I'm glad I got my tandem. But, everyone is different. That's why it's nice to have choices. :)

I am going to go with the Twin SBS Aria (peg perego) possible a combi sbs....
I am more inclined to put the babies in the stroller without the carseats b/c I dont want them to spend a lot of time in them anyway. The sbs's look so much easier to deal with and I have heard good things.
I also will be using my single bumbleride flyer I got last yr and putting one baby in a sling so I dont always have to bring a double.

I'm expecting twins in Sept. and my husband & I registered for a tandem. We figured the side by sides would be too hard to get in and out of doorways, down aisles, etc. We got the stroller at a shower 2 weeks ago and love the way it looks. It folds up pretty well and isn't that heavy either.

They aren't bad at all with either of these. We have a sbs and it's width is perfect for doors and aisles. :good:

We had an inline stroller that we got at the baby shower and I, personally, didn't like it. It was quite heavy and it was hard to control around turns. Plus, the one sitting in the back was not happy and kept kicking the front seat passanger. What we used in the beginning was the double snap-n-go, and I think that is the best invention EVER! Seriously, it made our lives so much easier.

We started with a Double Snap n Go. I wanted something light, that would be easy to use independently while out and about with new twins. I LOVED IT! BUT, I learned after several uses that I wanted to "upgrade" when the time came to a side-by-sie stroller. A lot of it has to do with personal preference. But after driving the SNG, I just really did not like manuevering the long stroller in and out of doorways, through clothesracks, etc.

We opted for a Combi Twin Savvy, and have been using it for over three years now. We bought it when they were about 6 weeks old, and used it shortly thereafter. Like a pp mentioned, they do not accomidate two infant carriers, but we definitely grew into this stroller and have been very happy with it.

If I had to do things all over again, I would do it the same way.

We have a graco duoglider that will hold both carseats. It's great if the babies are asleep because we don't have to take them out of the seats to put them in a stroller. However, it is a little hard to steer through tight places like somebody has mentioned. We ended up buying two babytrend umbrella type stollers (about $50 each so not bad) that recline a good bit and they can ride in without sitting up straight. It is very handy in places like the mall if I have someone with me because we don't have to worry about the size of the double. I haven't bought them yet, but I have seen connectors that will connect individual strollers into a side by side. I don't know how good they are or if they work but how convenient that would be!

We loved our Double snap and go stroller frame. Just sold it actually to another mom that is so happy to have gotten it. We have a SBS Combi and like it a lot. It fits through doorways and down aisles, some places it's a bit tight but for the most part works well.

I started out with the Graco Duo glider and snapped our seats into them. Then, when the boys were a year old, i ordered a combi sbs off of ebay. I LOVE IT, it's lightweight and easy to get some places....though sometimes it's not. Some aisles are too narrow for a sbs and the duo glider works better. As a sidenote, my Combi has an infant boot which velcrows over the lap bar part of the stroller to keep infants in and allow it to become a cradle like thing. I wish i would have known that then but....i guess i know now. The combi reclines ALL THE WAY and the Graco.....back does, front - not so much. I keep both strollers aorund and decide what i need that day. It's kinda a pain but works out inthe long run. The graco also has food trays and my combi doesnt. Another convenient feature the graco has is a cup holder and storage tray for mommies and the combie doesnt. The baskets onthe Duo Glider are larger than that on the sbs combi. Hope that helps out a little bit.

If you plan to use your stroller with any frequency, you are going to want one that will hold the infant carseats. Even with one baby you don't want to risk waking them up to move them from the carseat to the stroller and you especially don't want to do that with two. If you do decide to go with a sbs with infants, it needs to be one that reclines fully because that is how infants have to lay.

We used our strollers a lot and I personally preferred the tandem. It fit anywhere, was easy to use, kept the kids from fighting, had good sunshades, had snack trays, had a parent tray, and had a big storage basket. One complaint many people have about tandems is that they are heavy but, honestly, how often do you pick up a stroller and lug it around? I'm 5'2 and I had no trouble lifting it into my trunk a couple times a day. We used our tandem in pretty much every environment and all over the country.

I bought a sbs because I had some pretty ideas of my kids holding hands  and let's just say it didn't turn out that way.;) In a tandem, I only had to keep the baby in the back from bothering the one in front. That's doable and you can do it consistently. In a sbs, both kids had access to one another and the fighting was constant. As soon as I'd admonish one child, the other one would do it and there were many times I didn't see them do it so I couldn't be consistent about the discipline. Basically, that was my main problem with the sbs but it pretty much paled in comparison to my tandem in every way. I very rarely took it shopping because there were too many situations where it was a pinch to get it through areas and I didn't like taking it for walks either because it took up almost the whole sidewalk and forced other people into the street to pass us.

We sold our sbs after 1 year (for a good price) and used our tandem from birth to just over 3 years old.

Good luck with your shopping and I hope you find the perfect stroller for you!

I started out with the Graco Duo Double Deluxe stroller (front/back) and used it with the Graco SafeSeats. We *loved* it for those first 6-7 months & got a ton of use of it.
As the girls got bigger and we stopped using the car seats in the stroller we got the Combi Twin Savvy Double SBS stroller & it is wonderful :good:
Since they are older now, they both like to be in the front :)

We had both too. We used the Combi Counterpart 2 with both infant seats, and we started using the SBS at about 2 months.. We use is everywhere. It is not hard to get through doorways or elsewhere..

I vote a tandem for the start and a SBS when they are older.
