I am 10 weeks 4 days today and have been miserable since I was 6 weeks. Somedays I can't keep nothing done and then there are a few where I feel like a complete pig. I tried keeping crackers by my bed and this morning that is what I got sick from. I never get anything ever worse than a cold so this past month has been hell. I get motion sickness so trying to go anywhere, just plain sucks! In the past month I have lost 13 pounds, though I had extra baggage to begin with but is all that weight normal?
I am hoping that it will start and fade away in the next few weeks but while I wait anyone have advice that worked for them?

Everyone kept telling me crackers, and it was just one of many things that kept coming back up :p Someone suggested sour hard candies like lemonheads. You're own saliva helps neutralize the stomach acid that can make you sick, so sucking on candies can help.
I was sick from about 6 wks to about 14 wks, and I mean really sick, in bed for two months kind of thing. I was very lucky though. I could keep down dairy. Strait up milk was always a bad idea, but an Instant Breakfast was always good, or some velveta with some tortilla chips. You really have to find what foods will work for you. Even if it's ice cream, or an orange sherbet smoothie mixed with o.j. Really it came down to just anything that could get a few calories in me, even if it came back up, I like to think I absorbed a little bit. The odd thing is, we all seem to survive those first few awful months, both mother and babies. I don't understand it. But I'll never eat apple sauce again, and I'll never look at some foods the same way.

Ok, the things that really helped were
    1) my dr put me on Zofran. Big help! I could keep most foods down, and keep hydrated.
    2) Staying in bed. If I got up, I felt sick, if I stayed down, I didn't. I ended up having to drop that semester of school (still pulling my hair out over this!) but it was worth it. I also had lots of help, someone was able to come stay with me and get me food and all that.
    3) If your doc is worried about the weight your losing, then worry. If not, don't let it bother you. Believe me, you'll get it back, with reinforcements, later on. I lost like 16 lbs, and I'm got it back and then some.
    4) Try to stay hydrated. It's hard when even water won't stay down, but it's kind of a catch 22. If you get dehydrated it'll make it worse and you won't be able to keep anything down, even water. If you get to this point you have to go to the hospital and get an IV. One thing that helps is those like pedi-light drinks or things that have the electrolytes in the. If the taste of the pedi-light or Gatorade is something you can't handle, watering it down can help.
    5) Find something that will get the food taste out of your mouth. I couldn't stand toothpaste, but was ok using baking soda to brush my teeth after I ate. A lot of the time it wasn't the food that made me sick, but just the taste in my mouth.
    6) Forget eating three meals a day, just snack all the time. Getting too full, or letting you stomach get too empty is never a good idea. Lots of small meals help.
    7) Always keep in mind that this ends. You'll most likely feel better later on during the pregnancy. Which means someday you will enjoy food again and life will seem relatively normal.

    :hug99: You'll get through this!

You could ask your doctor about meds to help. I was on Diclecton(sp?). I got sick at 4 weeks and it lasted till 32 weeks. The meds took alot of the nausea away. I felt human again for a while anyway.

Hi there! So sorry you are feeling sick...I know that is NOT fun at all....
I agree w/ the pp about the sour candies, it worked for me. (and crackers too...first thing in the morning...while still in bed I would eat one or two).
I would def. call my dr. about the weight loss though, just so they are aware.
oh, and applesauce worked for me too?!

There is another twin mommy 'to be' on here from Lacey! She is due on monday w/ ident. girls :)
And I am in the Kent/Covington area! Lots of us washington twin moms!!

I am 22W3D and am just getting over morning sickness. I totally agree with pp about Carnation Instant Breakfast, but I had to drink it thru a straw or I'd get sick. String cheese, toast with peanut butter, pretzels all helped. But the zofran helped most of all. Ask your dr for a prescription - it is worth it! Good luck to you!

I am so sorry for your sickness but understand completely. Both of my pregnancies i had horrible morning sickness--I should say all day sickness because I just couldn't keep anything down. I lost 10 lbs in two weeks during my first pregnancy with my son and had to go get fluids because I just couldn't eat. With my girls I wasn't quite as bad, but still very sick. For me, by the second trimester things began to look up and I progressively got better. You have been given some great advice already. Just hang in there, I know it's rough, but it will go away. :hug99:

    Hi!

I feel for you. . .I am almost 19 weeks and started feeling better about 2 weeks ago. . .I still have an occasional bad day with nausea, but it is SOOO much BETTER! I too lost over 10 pounds (and have extra baggage to begin with) and I am just starting to gain that back. My doctors (both OB and peri) are NOT concerned. . .They explained that the babies are like parasites and basically take what they need from us whether or not we are really getting our own nourishment from food. . .Try to stay hydrated though, even though I know how hard it is. . . I didn't find too much that really helped me other than chewing gum when I really thought I was going to throw up or sucking on hard candies. My favorite were the ice breakers sours. . .they really helped prevent some of the throwing up, especially when I was driving (I have a long commute to work. .. uggh) Also try sipping on juice or sprite. . . Good Luck and hope you are feeling better soon!!

I'm into my 14 weeks and morning sickness (or anytime of the day) still comes and go :bad: . I lost abt 8 pounds and was underweight before pregnancy. Doc put me on bedrest for 4 weeks, and homebound for 2 months. Still can't gain weight, but at least I'm not losing anymore.

I deal morning sickness with soda (mainly sprite and coke), hard candies, plain crackers and lots of small sips of orange juice. Now craving is coming, but I still try small frequent meals instead of big meals cos I'm afraid the sickness will come back. I find having non-complicated meal (like steak with many side dishes is a complicated meal for me) is hard for me to digest and keep down, so I keep to plain pasta, rice with one dish/meat, etc helps. Remember to keep urself hydrated!

Any mothers with advice on how I can gain some weight? I'm only 43kg at the moment and would like to have healthy weight gain as my pregnancy prgress along.

Hi! I am so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time, sweetie. I am now 12 weeks, and I had it soooo bad too. I am just now beginning to come out of the "morning" (more like 24 hour) sickness. I want to share a few things with you.

    1) My doctor put me on phenergan 25mg. I would take 1/2 pill about 30 minutes before I would eat a meal, and that would allow me to keep the entire meal down. Before I got the phenergan, I could hardly keep anything at all down. And just the smell of crackers made me sick! At night before going to bed, I would take a whole phenergan, and that would keep me from waking up sick in the middle of the night. It also lessened the sickness I would wake up with.

    2) High protein Ensure (the generic kind is just as good, and so much cheaper if you can get it at Wal-Mart or Walgreens.) I would drink three or four a day. That helped keep nutrients in me. It also helped me to feel "full" when I was hungry but couldn't eat.

    3) This is something I learned just a couple of weeks ago, but it has been a life saver. I found that the more sleep I got at night, the less sick I was the next day. So I started going to bed an hour earlier (like at 8Pm, sometimes even 7:30!). It made such a huge difference. The reason I found this out, was because for two weekends in a row, I was feeling great for the most part--as far as the sickness went. But come Monday morning, I'd be sick as a dog again. So I realized that on the weekends, I was sleeping in and taking daytime naps. I was well rested. And that made a huge difference in the sickness.

Anyway, I know everyone is different, but I'm hoping some of this might help. I know how miserable it is, and I really hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care!

Don't know what happened here, but somehow a funny face got inserted where I actually wrote "8 PM". I did NOT mean to put that there!

I munched on Ginger Altoids most of the day. They seemed to help more than anything else. I had 24/7 sickness until about 24 weeks.

Crackers didn't really help much. I also found that really cold drinks went down better than warmer ones.

I am sorry to hear that you have been so sick. That is how I was my first trimester. Crackers and ginger ale helped a lot. Other people have recommended snacking and I whole heartedly agree. I lost 8lbs in that time and my doctor told me at one of the appointments that if I did not start gaining weight, they would have to intervene, by my next appointment, I hit the 2nd trimester and was able to eat more.

But if you are definitely concerned call your doctor and let them know what is going on! Good luck and I hope the sickness passes for you soon!

I was sick with all three pregnancies. However, this one was by far the worst for the all day sickness. My OB prescribed two different meds for me. One, in particular, I call the miracle drug...Zofran. This didn't take away all of the morning sickness (all day sickness) but I was able to function with the first two pregnancies. And with this twin pregnancy I also was taking Reglin. Now I am just taking the Zofran as I still experience the morning sickness at 30 weeks.

    Good luck to you!

Thank you for all the advices and suggestions! I'll definitely give it a try! I've personally tried Ensure Plus choc flavor, but probably cos it was too creamy, it didn't go down too well. Nonetheless, since my sickness is getting better, I should try it again.

I'm very surprised that you can have sickness till week 30! That must have felt terrible!!! Take care!! :)
