    Hello Ladies,
I just want to know if any of you have experience with a four month old with the flu. He's been puking since 3:00 a.m. and has been able to keep about two ounces down. He usually drinks five or six seven ounce bottles daily. He has a low-grade fever as well. What would you do to keep him hydrated and how long would you let it go on before taking him in to the ER? Thanks in advance, Lydia

If it were me I think I would stop giving him formula or BM and just put him on Pediasure. If he doesn't keep down the pediasure and stops having wet diapers I would take him to the ER. I think I would start keeping track of wet diapers and if it goes longer than 4 hours w/no wet diapers I would bring him to the ER.

Is he having wet diapers? Can you contact the doctor on call before you go?
I would say if he is not having wet diapers to definitely contact your pedi on call. And if you are not satisfied with the response, definitely go to the ER. Keep us posted.

How is he doing? I agree with PP, I would give very small amounts of Pedialyte as tolerated. Be on the lookout for wet diapers. Call if you have any question at all. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Well I finally made it to the drug store and spoke to my pharmacist who told me to use the pedialyte. He said if it persists until morning to take him in. He hasn't puked all afternoon but he has extremely bad diarrhea. I am hoping this is progression of it... Anyways, thanks for your quick and excellent responses.

When dd was sick (around 5 months old), the doctor said to keep her on breastmilk in smaller doses. Give at 15 - 30 minute intervals and see how it sits. If you see signs of dehydration (no tears, dry diapers and no saliva, definately bring baby in! I hope your baby feels better soon!

You could mix the formula with the pedialyte, that should help.
