So, I've been consistently measuring 8 weeks ahead on my fundal height. At my 23 week appt, she measured me at 31 weeks and always giggles about how far ahead I'm measuring. However, today when my OB measured me (I'm a little over 24 weeks) she has me at 28 weeks. She didn't even catch that it was smaller than last time and I didn't really either until after I left her office. Do you think she just mis-measured or measured differently this time? I definitely have not gotten smaller.

Anyone else ever have their measurments go down?

Weird! My guess would be that she measured too quickly or something.

I know at my last appt, I was 22w5d. The OB measured me and said, "Yep, 23, you're right on schedule."

Since I had measured 4 weeks ahead since 16 weeks, I stared at him and said, "What? 23? Are you sure?"

Then he sort of did a double-take (Oh yes, you're having twins, that's not "on schedule") and said, "Hmm, where are you hiding those babies?! Let me re-measure you" and the second time he came up with 27.5. And he is a very experienced OB, so I'd say there's definitely room for some doctor error if your measurements aren't sounding right.

Once, by a week (the next week)

My guess is she didn't measure exactly the same- also, keep in mind how the babies are lying might have a lot to do with it, as they measure from the center. Maybe your babies just shifted around a bit in there.

Could the babies have changed positions? That might affect fundal height.

I agree that the Dr probably mis-measured or the babies switched positions. I wouldn't worry too much about it, Im sure everything is fine.

If your uterus is soft it can be hard for the doctor to tell exactly where it ends - babies shifting can also affect it. Do one yourself at home for reassurance with a tape measure - I know for me I can always tell my body better anyway - just use a tape measure and feel for it.

Can you guys actually find the top of your uterus? I never can. I'm not sure what that means.

at 22 weeks they said i measured 22.... i was like.............. ARE YOU BLIND?!?!?! lol well come to find out....the chic didnt know what she was doing cuz i went into the hospital a few days later and measured 31. LOL so i think maybe it was just a laziness thing. or lack of knowledgement. there is no way you are "shrinking" lol i would make sure to say something about it next time and ask for a definate measurement. that is what i had to do!

UPDATE: I called my OB this morning and they said that it's possible that the girls just shifted position to make my uterus stretch differently. I didn't have an u/s yesterday so it's hard to tell. Either way, they're not concerned, so neither am I!

Just as a point of example, I measured 8 weeks ahead at the beginning of a Level II ultrasound. At the end, it was obvious that the babies had shifted (even on the ultrasounds) and I didn't look as pregnant. I asked the nurse to measure again. Same nurse, same day, same tape! And I was only 4 weeks ahead! But it was really obvious that my boys had decided to go for walks around the sides instead of being piled on top of each other under my belly button! :) So it might have A LOT to do with where they are at that moment. And at my visit last week my OB had a really hard time finding the top of my uterus because it's getting so high AND I'm having bad upset stomaches. This makes the stomach hard too, so it's hard to tell where one stops and the other starts except one girgles and the other kicks when you push it! :)

And fundal heights are REALLY unreliable in twin pregnancies, or at least that's what my perinatologist says.
