Of course, the ideal time to shower is when someone else is able to watch the kids, or when the babies are napping/in bed. But, that isn't always possible!

What do you do with your babies while you shower or bathe, and get dressed and ready for the day? (Obviously, rush as much as possible, right?)

Bouncey seats have allowed me to take most of my showers, but the boys are too big and too active for them to be safe anymore. I have considered leaving them to play on the floor of their room (with a monitor), but Ben seems to continually get stuck under cribs, or they end up in a baby pile or tussle over a toy, and crying/screaming follows. The nursery is down the hall from the bathroom, and I can't see them from the bathroom. Our bathroom is tiny, plus I don't like the thought of them playing on a bathroom floor....

I've used exersaucers, pack n plays, and the hallway floor right outside the bathroom (with a baby gate and closed doors blocking off any other area of the house). If I sit them down in the hallway - I give them a basket of toys I keep just for those kind of reasons and they'll happily play with it while I (quickly) shower and it usually even keeps them content until I'm finished dressing and even semi-drying my hair! :)

The exersaucers and PNP work, too. I've even brought a baby into the bathroom and put a blanket down for him to sit on and brought that same basket of toys in. I do this if only one baby is awake from his nap and I don't want him in the hallway yelling and having fun and waking up his brother!

    HTH!

I always shower before the girls get up for the day or during their morning nap. I've been doing this since the beginning.

I have never showered while they are awake, seriously. I either do it when they are sleeping or not at all.

exersaucer and a Baby Einstein video - then when they outgrew the exersaucer they were in my babyproofed living room with said video and now they just follow me around - I was never able to bring them to the bathroom with me as the sound of the shower scared them!

Mine are still barely fitting in their bouncys so for now they still sit in their seats when I take showers. I am SOO glad you asked this question though, because they are getting too big & I was wondering what in the heck I was going to do with them!
I will probably put them in a PnP, but then I know they will scratch each other & fight over toys the whole time...I can't win!!

i put mine together in the crib and they have a funky looking mobile that plays for 15min. entertains them long enough for me to shower and sometimes make the bed and throw a little makeup on/brush hair, etc

I don't have to do this too often, but I just put some toys in their crib with them and turn on the music. They will play in the playroom together long enough for me to get ready in the morning when necessary or while we eat dinner. I don't feel comfortable leaving them out in there when I can't hear them though.

So glad to see this post... One of my daughters is getting close to crawling and I was just thinking "what am I going to do if home alone and need to take a shower?" Luckily, that usually only happens on the occasional weekend. My DH gets up the same time I do and we get the girls ready for daycare before we go to work. Otherwise, I had been using bouncers/swings but I agree, they are getting too big and active. I like the hallway idea, and it would work great with our house set up!

As soon as I hear them talking in the morning, I get up and take a shower. They are normally happy for about 20 minutes after they wake up. Long enough for me to shower and get dresses. I know they are safe in their crib.

I have two pack n plays in our bedroom which I park in front of the TV with their favorite Baby Genius video. I can see them still while I am in the shower.

I just put them in their cribs and try to shower when they are sleeping after a meal.

I always have showered either before I get them up for the day (rarely), but most often when they go down for their first nap (so they are safe in their cribs).
Mine are too big for bouncy chairs or swings now, and my shower is upstairs and all of my excersaucers and jumpers are downstairs - so I have no desire to haul them upstairs and I am not comfortable leaving the babies by themselves downstairs while I shower (first time mom anxiety I think).

I usually do it when they sleep but on occasion I have left them with my older kids and in their excersaucers.

    Ditto this.

If I absolutely had to though, I'd just put them in their cribs with toys and music. They'd probably hate it, but I'd know they were confined and safe.

I am surprised at how many can shower while the babes are sleeping... you are very lucky!! :D My boys are finally starting to sleep a little later, but, until recently, I would have had to wake up and shower at 4:45 am if I wanted to shower before my hubby needed the bathroom/shower, and the boys might have been up for the day... and I just was never quite motivated to get up at 4:45!  And, often I need to be showered before first nap (have to be someplace early), but, even when I can wait, it has been rare that their naps overlap enough to shower (it IS getting better, though!). Plus, when they are both sleeping, I always choose time with the attention-starved 4-yr-old rather than a shower... Really, I am jealous of those of you who get 'breaks' during your day!! Somedays, I am just longing for a nice, steamy, ALONE shower...

I will probably try the hall thing - we have planty of baby gates, so I can just section off a little area that I can see from the shower...

It is a good idea to get them used to playing somewhere safe like the crib or pack n play while they are young. If they are used to being in one for short periods of time with some fun toys, your life will be much easier!

I shower when they are sleeping or I have them in the bathroom with me. They play while I shower :).
