Should we ditch the night time pull-ups?

Bea is very well potty trained (daytime). Ainsley, I would say 75% day trained. Both are still in pull-ups at night, and I'm using pull-ups because I thought they would at least go use the kiddie potty in their room if needed. Of course not! Every night at bedtime, they poop within like 10 minutes of being put to bed. Sometimes they even poop twice! It's like they save it up. We are both so sick of this! I've tried adjusting the time between dinner and bedtime, I thought it was the timing, doesn't matter. We make them go potty before bed, and encourage them to poop. That doesn't make a difference either. The poopfest drags out bedtime by another hour sometimes. One poops, then the other, blah blah. The one that didn't poop comes out of the room too, it's a party.
I'm really not sure if they are ready to be in underwear overnight. Not sure about the peeing situation. They are always pretty wet in the morning, but I don't know how much of that is the morning pee, they like to play in their rooms for a while before coming out (they actually request that we don't come get them yet).

Anyway, I think the pull-ups are giving them "permission" to not poop on the potty.

That's a tough one. Do they poop on the potty during the day, and just do it again after going to bed? Or is the only pooping that occurs once they get their pull up on?

Lily wears a pull up overnight still, but she's waken up for like a week straight now dry and pees a ton when she wakes up. So I'm thinking of trying her in underwear overnight. But she never poops in her pull up. She's not a night or naptime pooper, she does it during the day in the potty.

I think if they do poop on the potty fine during the day, maybe the pooping in their pull up at bedtime is a bedtime stalling tactic. I'd maybe try some sort of reward tactic to try to get them to stop that, because if they are wet in the morning I wouldn't want to get rid of the overnight pull up yet.

Bea will poop during the day if she really has to go, but I think she prefers the pull-up, or maybe it's just a stalling tactic. Ainsley will poop on the potty if I catch her in time. We did try underwear at night with Bea the other night. She wasn't ready, she woke up at 11:00pm totally soaked. It was huge, like she just peed while she was sleeping, so we'll have to wait on that. I might try some sort of reward for pooping before going to bed, or at least going to the potty. I feel like they are too big to still be changing poop diapers.

this is a tough one, it does seem that it could very well be a stalling tactic. Regarding night dryness, I usually get Rachel up to go to the bathroom before I go to bed. She sleeps through it, and pees on the potty. Then she stays dry. 11 hrs is a long time to hold it.

If you eat at the same time as the twins do, it could be that you and the girls will need to "eliminate" at about the same time. I find that all of us need to use the toilet and poop in the same hour each day, so I encourage the stubborn ones at my house to go after I do. This is one way you can attempt to reset this portion of their body clock.

Personally, I would NOT choose to have them in underwear since they are pooping before bed, and peeing in their sleep. I think they will eventually get the message that Poop outside of a toilet is gross.

Aaron did this for months. He would go during the day only occasionally with alot of fighting it and much preferred to wait for the nap/night diaper. What I started doing was putting him to bed a half hour early then going back in to check on him at what should have been normal bedtime. I also poked my head in before I went to bed for sniff check! lol I got around any stalling techniques by putting him to bed early and then I wasn't cranky and rushing to get him to bed therefore giving him attention (negative attention is sometimes rewarding too). Another option is to add benefiber or something to a morning cup of juice (start it a little at a time!) and that should help regulate their intestinal clock to go mid day rather than at night. They'll only be able to wait for bedtime for a few days before the bulk takes over!

Mine are nowhere near ready for underwear at night, and they do poop in the potty during the day (or at least they try), but they still often poop right after bedtime -- nearly every night, at least one of them poops. It is a stalling tactic, but the way I see it, I'd rather change poopy diapers than have the even worse stalling tactic of wanting to get out of bed numerous times or sit on the potty for hours.

So they sit on the potty immediately before bed. If they poop, they get their 5 M&Ms. If they don't, and then do it in their diapers, I change the diapers with a minimum of fuss and then they go straight back to bed.

But at least I can walk away after putting them to bed and go do something else while waiting for them to poop (or fall asleep). If I insisted on having them do it on the potty, I would wind up sitting in the bathroom with them, or being in sort of a holding pattern waiting for them to finish so I could help wash hands, put sleep sacks on, etc.
