Should I try the paci again?

Things sleep related were going ok. Until teething. Now the boys wake up screaming around 1am. It's nowhere near time for them to eat, so I give them orajel or teething tablets as their Tylenol has worn off. I hold them until they are calm or 5 minutes- whichever is sooner then lay them down. This makes them very VERY angry. Last night they screamed for 1.5 hours. It's been more than a week. Theyset eachother off and egg eachother on.

I guess I'm getting desperate. They don't take a paci, or suck their thumbs. My DH always put his finger in their mouths until about 6 months (yes, I tried to stop him). They have loveys in bed with them but don't seem to care.

So am I insane for digging out every paci I bought 7 months ago to try to get them hooked on?

Or, what are some ways we can get them to self soothe?

Are you sure they aren't hungry? Maybe a growth spurt? My girls eat WAY more when they are going through spurts.

i found that no amount of desperate cajoling could get my boys to take a paci, even when i was desperate for them to find a way to self-soothe. some kids like them, some kids don't. in your position i certainly wouldn't be above trying, but if they're teething the paci might not be comfortable for them anyway.

do they have anything like a crib soother that plays music or sound? we used our crib soother for sleep training and turned it on when they were first going to sleep (calmly) and if they woke later we would turn it back on to try to give them a sleepy association. mixed results, depending on how determined they were to cry.

If they are teething, I don't know if the paci's would really help even if you could get them to take them. Have you tried Motrin or Advil, instead of Tylenol? I always found that ibuprofen worked way better than Tylenol for teething pain & it lasts 6 hours instead of 4.

    Ditto the Ibuprofin.
We also did the "stealth dose". Where we went in their rooms as we were going to bed and dosed them before they woke up in pain. (Of course that meant moving the pre-bed dose to pre-dinner so you were giving them the dose on the tail end of the prior dose.)

So like we would give them a dose of Advil at 6:00, then at 11:15 or 11:30 as we were going to bed, give them another dose.

I also agree that advil or motrin works better and lasts longer than tylenol.

I'm a paci fan, so I'd probably be trying the paci's as well, just in case it isn't teething and is something else. ;)

We have the Soothies one piece pacis, which my kids never used until they started teething. Now, they teethe on the round part, so yes, I would try the pacis again if you have Soothies ones.
