Should I rotate doctors?

My OB is part of a 10 doctor practice, split into 2 teams of 5 each. If I go into labor, whichever doc (of the 5) is on call will deliver. I have been scheduling with only my doc since he is a parent of twins and I really like him. But since he may not be the one delivering, should I see the others too - or stay with just him for my prenatal care?

If you can, I would arrange to meet each of the doctors once, so you have met them, know their face etc- preferably once you know what sort of birth you'd like (given a choice, twins are unpredictable!) and can give them a birth plan. That way, you won;t be looking at a stranger when you are already nervous and in pain during labour.

I stuck to one doctor because my infertility doctor was not going to release me to a regular OB until she found out who he was (had worked together in the past). I had a scheduled c-section, so him and another doctor were the ones delivering the twins. He was all for a vaginal birth if possible.

I rotated, however I did make it until my scheduled induction so my own doc induced me. With my daughter, I went into labor myself and she wasn't on call that night. So yes, if you go into labor on your own, you could end up with a completely different doctor, so my practice makes sure you see everybody at least once.

I would rotate, so at least you have seen every doctor once and they have seen you. You never know which one will be on call when you go into labor. Good luck!

I would rotate if I were you. Every doctor practices a little different and it would be good if each one of them knew a little of your history just in case you go into labor when they are on call. Hopefully you will end up with the doctor you have seen the most, but you never know...

I have always gone to a practice with at least 4....my current practice which I had my latest dd with had 8!! I rotated to see all of them b/c I felt it was really important to communicate clearly with all of them what my preferences were for birth...but then again, I was doing vbac, so it's kind of critical to know where all the docs stand on that in case you wind up with one who refuses to do it. I had to know what I was getting into with whichever doctor I wound up with. Keep in mind too that a good bedside manner doesn't equal the best labor experience. The doc who delivered Julianna was great in the office, and horrible in the delivery room. Really lost respect for him. so you never know.

our practice didn't give a choice - you had to see each of the docs at least once...there was one doc I didn't like but the other 3 were great and now I kept the one that delivered my kids as my regular GYN - I see her each year now for my annual...

Our office also has many OB's and they actually want you to see a variety of Drs. for that exact reason. I saw a few others and then stuck with the one I liked best. It couldn't hurt just so you know a few others in case your OB doesn't deliver your babies.

I had a large OB practice too. I was told at my first visit that I could rotate if I wanted too, but most likely with twins you get to scheduled date where you could pick your Dr. or you would go in an emergency and you would have no choice. I saw 3 and rotated between the 2 I liked and even scheduled a c-section and then got admitted for pre-e and had to have an emergency c-section and saw a totally new Dr.
