Should I NOT teach them zippers?

We have a dressy bessy and a dapper dan doll. They each have zippers, buttons, velcro, and bow ties. The kids can do the velcro, and are now starting to understand zippers - sort of. But now Zack is starting to try and unzip his coat, and I fear that their feety-PJs will be next. It's WAAAAAAY too cold here to have naked babies at night.
Did you withhold showing your kids how to use zippers for this reason? Just curious.......
    thanks! Kathleen

I didn't show them zippers but someway Iris has figured it out on her own and is unzipping her sleepsack many times during the night. I don't think you can avoid them learning how, just delaying it!

The'll figure them out soon on their own, trust me. I have a stripper. :D

Unzipping is something they'll teach themselves. I have two strippers, I've resorted to pinning their sleepers so they stay dressed over night. :)

You don't need to teach them, they will figure it out on their own!

I agree with the other posters, they will learn on their own. My son learned and for about two weeks straight he would unzipp his winter coat constantly and his sleeper at night too. But after about 3wks to a mth he finally has slowed down a lot on doing that and only does it once in a while.

My kids are pretty good with zippers, but they don't take their PJs off unless they are about to go potty. My kids are just not strippers by nature. Also, they sleep in sleep sacks put on backwards. ;)

But they do take their own coats off -- this is a valuable skill! It's so nice now that they can both take their coats and shoes off and leave them by the door, instead of me having to chase them around to do it myself.

For me, the biggest problem with them being zipper-enabled is that Amy will now unzip my backpack, gym bag, etc. It used to be that if a bag was zipped up, it was safe, but now I find her carrying my wallet and gym shorts around the house. This didn't start happening until at least 24 months though. I think coats are a lot easier to unzip than bags, because they don't have to hold on to the end and the zipper pull at the same time.

They figure it out anyway. I did not teach Emilie, but she learned anyway, and I am sad to say she has become a stripper during naptime. <_< With her sleeper though she is almost always unzipped in the morning, but thankfully can't get that little button across the top.

If they have the stripper tendency, they will learn to strip and enjoy it thoroughly. The phase lasted over a year for us and we still have our days here and there -- my boys do so love to run naked. I didn't intentionally teach them any of the skills. I didn't even have a dressing doll (they use each other for practice). I'm going to get one now, though, because it would be nice if they practiced doing the buttons correctly and quit yanking on their shirt to unbutton it.
